Those seem to have a very unusual spore print colour, can you say what the colour appears to be? From here it looks almost reddish! Maybe try on foil.

With the bruising I still think subs, but man they are pretty damn weird. If that truly is a red spore print, that would freak me out a lot. Can you take a pic of the prints in better lighting?

PS if it is red can I be down for a print!

Subaeruginosa Red Spore, the vendors would love it.

Obviously anything with a red spore print should be looked at much more carefully, especially given the Galerina issue!

I really don't think they are subs... When they age - as you can see, they get splits in the cap instead of becoming wavy as subs normally do. The spores look yellow to me. The last spore print shot shows the colour the best as far as I can see (but each monitor displays colour differently). The first two do look a bit off - I was shooting with a flash bounced off the wall because the rooms lights weren't enough to get a good exposure so it might have messed up the colours a bit. I also tried to correct the white balance as best I could.

The gills are also different to subs - in shot #1 - the bottom right is a mature sub and compared to the one in the center is obviously very different. I was thinking it was some type of Gymnopilus, just because it's the only other active species I know of around here. But I know very little about anything besides Subs and Cubes heh

would you say the the caps are dry and scaly and the spore print is orange-yellow?
if so then its most probably Gymnopilus purpuratus

I don't know what you would mean by scaly, but they were dry. And I would say the spore print is orange yellow

Here are some sub caps that split.

I find that subs can look incredibly different from each other. As for these being gyms, with the print that makes sense but that's some pretty crazy bluing and a very golden cap colour?

I wonder if maybe some of the blueing has come off of the subs, where they in the same bag/container chooken?

They were, I was also thinking that was possible, but there is obvious bruising on one of the cap's gills. I also remember when I picked them, I thought they looked different, but because there was bruising on the cap, I grabbed them as well.

Also:

GOTTA get those prints to some members here for microscopy workups:super:
those are NOT gymnopolis - they are like a couple finds from the PNW of a orangish tan species with similar color gills and prints - they also bruised blue - - -- alan rockefeller HAS to scope these:awesomenod: Someone please dial up the man #925.........

This thread has helped me to realize how uncertain I am in determining spore print colors.

I'd call this one reddish brown or cinnamon, and it wouldn't be the first time I've been off.

Is there such a thing as a color standard for spore prints?  I fully realize that there is going to be variation even among the same species, but it would be great if there was a basic "color wheel" so that us newbies could start learning the difference between brownish yellow, brown, cinnamon, reddish brown, grayish brown, etc.

Anyone else have the same feeling?  Is such a thing possible, or is it wishful thinking?

i think that's a pretty good idea. would help alot of us new ones out there.

when i first started spore prints i couldnt tell between greying brown / purplish brown.

---- re: tolerance.

i did 2grams dry on friday night. had a pretty intense trip. last night i did i would say atleast 3grams, maybe 4 ( i just eyed it out) and did not feel a thing. not even a body high. i know there is some short term tolerance but NOTHING after doubling my dose? could it be my mushrooms have lost their potency?

once they were dry i chopped them up with scissors and left them inside of a plastic sandwhich lockzip bag away from sunlight.

Cool find chooken

It's not a Gymnopilus species that I'm familiar with. It would be interesting to see some microscopy on these.

I will be able to make some microscope observations on these, and take some pics for you guys also. If someone has any suggestions about what I should be looking for; and where on the gills, I'd appreciate some pointers. Any stains that can be made from household items?

I have found all the structures with an electron microscope very easily, but under a light scope they all seem to disappear!

I have found quite a few 'subs' with lighter gills like this, and some today. Printing now to find out if I too get an odd colour
