I have found a great place to get buckets for grows. The cake section of your local grocery store. They use buckets for the icing and they are between 2 and 4 gallon mostly. They save them for me and I get about 4 every other day if someone does not throw them out. They go through even more but alot just get tossed. I bet almost everyone in a city could get more than they need in a few trips if you ask. i am working on mastering a personal tek for them and will post pics in a few weeks as fruit develop. Trout

That's a good place, the other places i go besides the supermarkets in Aus is the local Cheescake shop (fondant as well), the local hamburger shop (gravy buckets), fish shops etc.
They look after you very well if you drop a feed of mushrooms in every now and then.

So Punkin when your letting your buckets colonize are the holes open or covered? Do you line your buckets? Do you have holes in the bottom? Much contaminate issues? Have you tried shiitake buckets? Sorry for all the ? but I need info to get this going on a regular cycle. Trout

I've tried lining, it works ok. As you can see, i use large plastic bags normally when the straw is colonising. No holes in the bottom. Contaminates are rare if spawn is high enough. no i haven't tried shitake in buckets, though i did try maitake once. I did it with straw though and it was unsuccesful.
