pre pins RH for cakes then for casings
    #14471914 - 05/18/11 06:35 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I know casings need less humidity than cakes. The only question is do the casing still need &90-&100 when getting ready to pin. do they need it to initiate pinning like you have to with brf cakes?...thanks everyone.

the constantly evaporating water is the pinning trigger (fae),

not the humidity inside the chamber.

you can also have your rh in the 80s and get nice healthy fruits.

the evaporating water creates a high humidity near the surface of the substrate.

Damn it, I got beat to the punch

Wait 24 hours before bumping your own thread.

By casing do you mean bulk substrate? As in Grain spawned to bulk? if so, they're a completely different set up if you're using a mono (the pic in my signature) or a GH.

You do NOT dunk before introducing into fruiting conditions. & RH should be between 85-100, just like cakes.

THE number 1 MAIN pinning trigger is evaporating water from you substrate, whether it be poo, coir or BRF, which is achieved through fanning & misting.

here is my problem. I've gone through three different humidifiers. Right now I'm using a one day old $100 sonic cool mist. I've got  4-5 inches of perlite in my fruiting chamber. Fruiting chamber is 3.5 foot long, by one foot, high, one foot deep. The perlite doesn't do much so I have the humidifier INSIDE of the tub (that way there are no air leak from a confusing tube set-up. All this and I can only get the humidity to 70-90RH. The cakes (3) I have in there now are 2 weeks old and no action.. don't even have the mycelium colonizing the verm. I just dunked them last night to get the humidity levels inside the cakes back up. re-rolled in verm. Now this bloody terrarium wont get past 70-90RH (normally 80-85RH) So do you think this could grow fruits with misting and fanning, or should I try making a different terrarium? I'm sorry for bumping up my post it's just that I have about 8 jars (some brf cakes and some WBS for casing.) They will be fully colonized in the next few days. So, in about 2 weeks they will be ready to start fruiting. I needed to know If it's impossible to get pins with this set -up and low humidity. If so I'll start working on a new terrarium. Sorry for no pics. I'll try to get some soon.

You might want to try building a proper SGFC w/ the proper amount of perlite.

I'd recommend spawning those grains to bulk or doing a G2G w/ them if you don't have enough to fill a mono & keep the SGFC for BRF cakes.

www.mushroomvideos.com

it has the entire BRF/PF tek on it. Watch the part on building your fruiting chamber & build it like that to the "T".

I'd keep misting & fanning & see what happens.

that is the exact set-up I have. I tried with just perlite but If I strain the  water out like in the video. It dries out in two days. If I pour  in a bunch of water it only gets the RH to about %60. Thats why I added the humidifier. It's just really dry in my area and especially in my house (which I don't control.) I was thinking of not putting holes in the area where the perlite sits and adding alot more water. I can only add about 1 inch right now cause I put the holes to close to the bottom. I have a different "rubber maid" box that I'm gonna try. It has no holes yet so I'll add just a few holes, and see what that does.

you need to learn how to read and use the search engine kid,

when you have a humidifier, that pushes air, it still draws out moisture, even if it
is air that has moisture, since it will never blow 100% humid air, its just air with water
particles,

alot of people have vicks cool mist and they runn it 24/7 but they have a greater area,
i know this cause my cool mist is now on a timer since i cut down my system , since summer is here,
theres no reason to grow indoors,

mushroom growing is a scinece but its nature, it rains for a few days mushrooms pop up.
becuase they are given alot of water, then evaporation,

from your last posts you couldent get cakes to fruit, so dont bother doing casings

no need to be a prick. I don't know how you speak to people where your from but you should learn some manners. I asked a question because
I already went through the search function and didn't have all day to read. Also you won't get anywhere if you don't ask questions. Maybe I caught you on a bad day, but your attitude did nothing helpful and may actually get people to ignore your suggestions. though because of your message. I removed the humidifier, doubled my perlite and tripled my water. now every thing's working great. thanks
