i agree, but putting a tax on the targeted behaviour essentially discourages it's use. it will raise costs for alot of industries that have processes that rely on carbon emissions. this will then spur on an environment of innovation and research, pushing the problem onto society further. hopefully this leads to the developement of some new kinds of technology and infrastructure.
But who knows, it could completely backfire, and run alot of smaller businesses into the ground, giving up more power to the big corporations, who will continue to buy up alternate technology and bury it, and end up being a giant cash cow for governments.

I was too lazy to type in greater detail how I felt about such a taxes possibilities, but no fear because you did a grand job for me. I hope A becomes true, but I have a greater expectation of B actually happening.
It blows when everything is monopolized.

Agreed. B has a greater chance if you just glance on how the world is being run.
