Red / Blue / Green / White light
    #1446740 - 04/10/03 01:16 PM (20 years, 11 months ago)

I've heard from different people at different times that colored lighting will greatly improve the ability of cubensis mushrooms to fruit. I don't grow or anything, but a friend wanted to know the results that other folks have had with colored lighting. Did any colors increase the pinset? Decrease? My friend is asking because he has some stubborn cakes that refuse to pin, despite the favorable condition.

As far as I know, bright white light is the best to use? I hope that's right, if not... Oops! I'm currently using a halogen light source (yellowish, orange) and the're doing just fine after I thought I'd killed the spores.

There is no such thing as a colorless light. Don't you remember in grade school when you learned about light spectrums? In Pual Staments, The Mushroom Cultivator he says something about the blue light spectrum being the most beneficial to the mushroom.

STAY AWAY from green and/or red light. They are ineffective when trying to initiate pinning. Anything else is fine, with blue being the proven best.
