Looking for some input
    #14472064 - 05/18/11 07:56 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I knocked up some BRF jars on May 3rd with Treasure Coast spores. I had the syringe since last summer, kept it in the fridge in a brown paper bag. Since May 3rd, I've had maybe a 20% if not less colonization on the jars. I was keeping them in my closet high up on a shelf. I did my normal routine with it all, followed everything to the T, but they just seem so damn slow to colonize. The temps in the apartment hover about 68-70, colder at night though and its been overcast with cold winds lately.
I was able to get the closet up a bit running a heater, but i dont run it when i leave for extended periods(monday-friday 6am-4pm)even so the mycellium barely grew. So I put together an incubator and have the temp set right at 78-80, it fluctuates a bit. What i'm trying to get at are these jars stalled or just slow because of the low temps before?
Like i said just looking for some input, never had this problem before, though last time i grew the conditions were ideal the entire time. Just a new guy trying to work out the kinks in this cold weather.

holes?? am i just missing it?

like filter holes? in that case "uncovered" is bad, obviously, but i still dont think im getting it. lower (than 80) temps arent a bad thing for incubation either, i like mine at 71-ish.

id blame it on poor spores; either because of age, or storage procedure.

that shit does take a long time sometimes, and in the mean time, you can noc up some more  :excitedseal:

i'm thinking its just bad spores really. as far as the holes go, i've grown both ways, by leaving medical tape or foil on the lids and also removing them and i've had success both ways, the dry verm layer acts as a barrier to the substrate.
