Was wondering whether any of you guys have picked patches like this and if so, how did you get the sand off ?

I reckon continue to dry them out as you are doing, and once dry just shake them around in a container of some sort. The sand should come off pretty easily once the moisture content/stickiness is out of them. And perhaps to avoid crunching up grains when you eat them, just make tea from them..?

^I agree, do this if you have already started drying them.

If it was me I would have just put them in a collander when they were freshly picked and rinsed all the sand and dirt off with cold water.

If they're not properly cleaned before drying the sand will probably get locked in the wrinkles in the cap, stem, etc.

Tea would be the best solution if that happens.

Some bush finds...

Local finds... This one was spotted in a fragrant rosemary bush.

Probably the biggest patch I've ever seen...

...and in the bushy area behind it were these monsters.

More randoms.

At that metallic-looking stage.

just remove them gently from the ground without disturbing the woodchips or white stuff under them. This can be done with scissors, or by pinching the base of the mushroom till it breaks, by twisting the base of the mushroom till it breaks or snaps.

Try not to pick the little baby mushrooms, and also dont pick any mushrooms who's cap hasn't opened yet.

Amazing shots there mayo!

Throughout human history, as our species has faced the frightening,
terrorizing fact that we do not know who we are, or where we are going in
this ocean of chaos, it has been the authorities, the political, the
religious, the educational authorities who attempted to comfort us by
giving us order, rules, regulations, informing, forming in our minds their
view of reality. To think for yourself you must question authority and
learn how to put yourself in a state of vulnerable, open-mindedness;
chaotic, confused, vulnerability to inform yourself.
Think for yourself.
Question authority

Finally found the patch ive been looking for!!! saw them on the side of the road in someones front yard and went n had a geeze, thought i saw about 20 but as i got down on my hands and knees they were everywhere! :crazy2: such a good feeling. Got to em a bit late as there was heaps of rotten ones, left about the same amount there of rotten ones and pins... Is there any point getting the rotten ones and drying them out or am i better off leaving them there? As in the more i leave there the more should grow back next time right?

i'm not sure, they probably wont loose much potency throughout the drying process provided they are not exposed to too much heat or air for too long, but i guess they will always be at their most potent when they are as fresh as possible. it doesn't really matter anyway if they lose a little bit of potency when dry etc because they are still very strong mushrooms.

I'm not too sure about #2 mushroom. it looks a bit too orange, although i see a bit of blueing on the stem. Probably don't eat it until its confirmed as a sub.

Yeah I was thinking that. I'm checking all of them for bruising, but the problem is that they are quite dry and golden from the sun. They look way different from your standard dark brown fresh one.

Yep, subs. When they dry there is usually a one or two hour period where they will look like that. I just happened to capture it in situ.
