The government mandating light bulbs
    #14471123 - 05/18/11 12:19 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

LOL

Is it only in California? It's so stupid. I heard about it yesterday on the radio and over a couple weeks ago from my dad about mercury in the new ones and the need to call a team up if they break.

yeah, its because the bulbs can interface with common computer OS's. google wants to control your home.

my local harware store is pissed and not taking any more for recycling because pge isn't coming through with their disposal plan.

CFLs lose efficiency if not left on for 15min or more. mercury in the house is supposed to be avoided to my knowledge, why we don't use those crap thermometers anymore.

If NIST didn't even investigate whether explosives were used, how can we trust their investigation? It's a rule whenever explosions are heard.

also they say were switching to save money yet these fucking things only last a year, so how much are we actually saving again when u factor in manufactoring costs?  plus these things have to warm up and the color they put off makes it hard to see shit

Huh? You guys got crappy CFL's there. Mine typically last several years (3-4 years; they're on a few hours every day), and they come in several color temperatures (many people around here use them for micro-grows, with different colors for vegetative and flowering stages). Also, the amount of mercury in them is negligible, and definitely not an issue as long as you don't break the glass. I broke several over the years, and I'm still not retarded. No signs of mercury poisoning here.
