All hydrated lime or not safe...

After spending some money on Dolomitic lime (Purchased LIMERITE brand unknowingly that i am not supposed to use dolomitic lime) and then again on hydrated lime (BONIDE PROCUCTS INC brand) I found that BONIDE hydrated lime has as much as Magnesium as that of Dolomitic lime. Please see below.
Here is the composition: 1) LIMERITE (Dolomitic lime)
Calcium ------------- 21% Magnesium ----------- 12%
Calcium is present in the form of calcium carbonate (52%) and Magnesium in the form of its carbonate (40%).
2) BONIDE Hydrated Lime
Calcium ------------- 34.2% Magnesium ----------- 20.4%
Calcium is present in the form of calcium oxide (46.5%) and Magnesium in the form of its oxide (32%).
So, if we calculate the proposition of Mg++ in hydrated lime it is the same as that of dolomitic lime. See below.
([21+12] x 20.4) / [34.2+20.4] = 12.32%
Thank God! this time i did not open the bag as i did with Limerte. SO, i am just going to return the Bonide hydrated lime.

Nice detective work! Lime can be a tricky thing to get right.
(I am speechless. This is the guy's first post and already he.... I MEAN, FUCKING READ THAT THING! IT'S BEAUTIFUL! Not even grammatical errors... I'm impressed.)

It is a nice first post.
OP, there's other methods. Most teks that call for lime are a bit dated- what's your plan for the stuff?

Look for a label like this one:

Nice work checking the labels. Bear in mind, about the only uses for lime in mushroom growing are to boost your pasteurization water(optional) and to buffer the pH of casing layers. If you're going to fruit your bulk substrate uncased, you need no lime at all. RR

I am planning on to start with Oyster mushroom. I thought it may be the easiest one to start with...

You mean we don't need to adjust the pH of substrate at all...Doesn't this affect yield...
Thank you...

No, you don't adjust the pH of your substrates. Most mushroom mycelium prefers a pH of around 5 to 5.5, so you don't want lime. Supplemented and sterilized sawdust is ideal for oysters, as are straw logs and laundry baskets. RR
