    #14469588 - 05/17/11 07:32 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

So in ohio we have what i belive to be amanita amerimuscari due to its white stem and yellowish orange cap.... but looking at photos there are alot of amanitas that look like amanita muscaria and amanita amerimuscaria... so when i find some amanitas how do i know if they are muscaria is it the white stem that makes them muscaria

I thought it was to do with location but I'm not sure if there're macroscopic variations between the two.

It's a combination of habitat and season as well as the warts on the cap, the ring on the stem, color of the cap, and the base of the stem. There are many "look-alikes" to untrained eyes in your area. It's not too hard once you get the hang of it.

Here's an excellent link...Fly Agarics

I will confess something that should be quite obvious, CC.  I love mushrooms, i.e. fungi.  I really do.  I am talking about a strong feeling, i.e. emotion, for them.  I think they are beautiful.  I even dream of them.

I wouldn't fuck with Amanitas even the ones you are looking for are slightly poisonous the others might just kill you! Look for these instead

Ohio-
Gymnopilus aeruginosus
Gymnopilus junonius
Gymnopilus luteofolius
Gymnopilus luteus
Panaeolus cinctulus
Psilocybe caerulipes
Psilocybe ovoideocystidiata
