Need some help from an anime freak.

Well, I recently moved, and no longer have cable. But while in the old house, I became very immersed in the Full Metal Alchemist series.
But since we don't have cable I can't follow the series anymore. BUT we just got netflix two days ago, and it seems to have everything available for streaming. My only issue is the order of everything.
There's:
Fullmetal Alchemist
Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood
Which order do I watch these in. At first it seems obvious, but when I read the descriptions of the first and 3rd, they seem to start at the same place.
Fullmetal Alchemist description:
Quote:
In this anime tale from Cartoon Network's Adult Swim series, brothers Edward and Alphonse Elric use the taboo science of alchemy to try to resurrect their mother. Instead, they unleash a chemical reaction that tears apart their bodies. Fast-forward four years: The siblings are scouring the land for the mythical Philosopher's Stone, which could restore their maimed bodies. And they may have located the fabled rock in an affluent desert burg.
Brotherhood description:
Quote:
Two brothers, Edward and Alphonse, disregard strictures against using a taboo form of science to revive their dead mother in this anime adventure based on the popular manga series. When their attempt at resurrection fails, they pay a huge price. Ed loses two limbs, while Al's soul is ripped from his body and attached to a suit of armor. Hoping to restore their bodies, the brothers battle a host of evil rivals to find the Philosopher's Stone.
Are they two different stored based on the same premise? Or does one series continue into the other? I'm very confused.
Question two: Does anyone know the name of the episode Adult Swim aired on April 23? That was my last day with cable, so that's the episode I'd be looking for to continue where I left off.
Help is very much appreciated.

Fullmetal Alchemist: The Movie
This is the first series, and the movie that followed it. It's kind of crappy compared to the manga.
Quote:

This is the second series, done after the completion of the manga. It's much more in line with the story, and over all, a vast improvement over the original series.
If you want to watch them all, I'd watch them in the order you listed. Do not watch Brotherhood before the first series, or you'll just spend the whole time going, this sucks so much more than the other one.

Nope. Both are the same story, but Brotherhood was made after the manga was finished, and it sticks to the overall FMA storyline much more closely than the original. Everyone I know who has seen both agree that Brotherhood is way way better.

Ok, so this is what I was getting at. Should I even watch them all? Are they both two adaptations of the same story?
If the second is better, should I bother watching the first at all? Since it's the exact same story except crappier?

I'd watch the first one and the movie, if for nothing else than the sake of being able to say for sure that the second one is better.

That's 26 hours of my life though, for a sub par version of the same thing.
Would the movie follow nicely after brotherhood? Could I just watch brotherhood, and then the movie? Or are the two variations of the story too different for them to go together?

The movie is a wrap-up of the first series. I don't think it would make any sense following Brotherhood.

Ah, ok then. Thanks for all the help. +5 for you.
I'll probably just watch brotherhood, since I'm half way through it anyway. Maybe one day I'll come back and check out the original, maybe I won't. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't doing a disservice to myself by not starting over.

I've only seen one episode. It was the first episode, but it was on maybe my 3rd ever psychedelic experience. Freaked me right the fuck out. But I see netflix has it. I hear it's a very short a worthwhile series. I might watch it when I finally get some DPT.

Hahaha, it's king crankey. That's a crown and a jeweled kingly sceptre.
But it's fine, the question at hand has been answered, so feel free to stay off topic.

Aweee, for fuck's sake. Netflix has Brotherhood parts one and two (episodes 1-26) available for instant streaming, but parts three and four are only available on DVD. They probably have a deal going with cartoon network to only stream episodes that have been played so that cartoon network keeps their viewers. Fuckkk.
And I already have 81 DVDs in my queue and they come one at a time and we just got this shit 2 days ago.
Guess I won't be seeing the rest any time soon.
