    #14469098 - 05/17/11 05:49 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hi all,

Got some weird growth on a cake and wanted some advice. What you guys think? Mold or mycelium?

Thanks in advance.

With all the blue, I'd say heavy misting & not enough FAE.
Mist above the cakes & let it drop onto them.

I'd probably have to agree, your fruits look bruised due to the water hitting too hard, and your cakes look soaked... fan those a lot moar!

How long did that white spot take to grow and is it still growing fast?

It is hard to tell because of all the water drops on the spot but to me it looks kind of sandy in texture.

If it grew that big in a day or two and is still growing and covering the cake at a rapid rate then it is Trich and it will turn green soon. Trich looks lust like super white fast growing myc until it matures, turns green and releases spores.

It depends on weather that spot grew in a few days or a week, I would recommend something different for each scenario.

If it was trich, it's unlikely that it would have grown that large without sporulating some already.  It does look very mold-like to me, but it's not dactylium because it's too white.

Please tell me that cake is not directly on top of the perlite....

Huh? Is dactylium green when it is mature because I had a layer of super white grow over my whole cake almost, b4 showing any green and I was sure it was trich because of it's sandy looking texture. It turned completely green over night but was super white until it went all green.

What is dactylium, please enlighten us with a link? Sry I am too lazy to UTFSE:getstoned:

EDIT: There is some green in the thin spot in the middle of the white at the top edge of the cake... looks like.

Looks like trich to me....I have had a spot that big before it sporulated

The mushrooms, which grow only during the season of torrential rains, awaken the forces of creation and produce an experience of spiritual abundance, of an astonishing, inexhaustible constitution of forms that identifies them with fertility and makes them a mediation, a means of communion, of communication between man and the natural world of which they are the metaphysical flesh.
