I love Jon Stewart. I haven't been watching The Daily Show much recently though. I do agree he's getting a bit preachy, but I also think that he feels responsible to be preachy. I don't think he ever intentionally set out to be a comedian who is taken more seriously than newsmen. He obviously finds the situation outrageous and terrifying, but he's not backing away from it. I admire his integrity.
For the same reason he does have a pretty unique soapbox to stand on, too.

Also, O' Reilly had Ted Nugent on his show and he performed Cat Scracth fever and he said this (see beginning of clip:
Also, Common is about peace and stopping street violence, Fox uses a lot of his lyrics out of context.
Fox "news" is the AIDS of TV.

Well I mean shit, he certainly doesn't advocate racism in the public sphere. Bill O'Reilly has always exhibited a sharp hatred for black artists who articulately draw attention to the hell of the ghetto. He goes out of his way to disrupt their careers by organizing boycotts. Jon just called him out on the double-standard he was practicing.

Jon Stewart on Crossfire...how do people see that and think Jon Stewart did such a great job?
Jon Stewart is funny and I watched the Daily Show regularly for a few years but his Crossfire appearance is just embarassing. He goes on to call them out for not being harder on politicians when the reality is that Jon Stewart has a much bigger platform than Crossfire to challenge whoever he wants but when the Crossfire guys call him out Jon Stewart uses the cop out that his show is a comedy show and therefore they can't compare it to Crossfire. Really, Jon? You mean it's not possible to challenge political guests in the same manner that you expect Crossfire to just because your show is a "comedy show"? Pretty weak. It's not like the Daily Show doesn't level intense criticism in the non-interview segments, but as soon as a guest comes on it's a game of softball catch, especially when the guest is left-leaning.

My sentiments exactly Jon or his writers are just being lazy and using comedy as a justification for not doing a stand up job.

No, Jon Stewart works for a network from which he would be fired if he adopted a serious political position. He put it best on Crossfire: the show that comes before his is puppets doing prank calls. If he campaigned for anything controversial what so ever, he would definitely get laid off. The hosts of Crossfire, on the other hand, are paid to embody strong political positions, and they treat it like a football game. He called them out on that, and they got fired.
A glorious moment in mass media history, IMO.

Jon Stewart and his producers are douchebags IMO. And don't go thinking he's a saint and is stopped from being good because of where he works. they hire people for a reason.

I see Jons appearance on Crossfire as interesting because he calls out those who claim to be "hard hitting" as nothing but pandering pundits (and total tools to boot).
There's a big difference in accountability between a show on a network that calls itself "Cable News Network" and one on a network calling itself "Comedy Central". One isn't pretending to be something it isn't.

This. Jon Stewart's job is to make people laugh, he can't just do whatever the hell he wants. He gets about 5 minutes of airtime to do his interviews anyways. Even if he wants to have a candid conversation with someone, there's hardly enough time to cover all the bases. But if you do watch the show you'll know that he occasionally does have longer interviews that are put up online without the edits. Regardless, his show airs on a comedy network. He's there to make people laugh, not provide hard-hitting political commentary. That's not a cop-out, just the nature of the business he's in. And watching the O'Reily video it's pretty obvious that he does a much better job of looking at the situation objectively. However The Daily Show is satire.

did you know those you think are honest aren't? false hope to believe an attribute you ascribe to someone is permanent, or valid outside of that context. think about that before calling someone a stereotype.
i have always hated ass titty rap. i'm just getting into rap, people with more meaningful lyrics.
any recommendations instead of just judgments?

IMO Jon Stewart is nothing but a symptom of the underlying social problem that we take comedians more seriously than newscasters.

i've been listening to a seattle based duo that goes by the name of "Common Ground" for years. they're the shit. to me, they embody the early spirit of rap. lots of brilliant lyrics and extremely intelligent and political.
definitely not "titty rap" (in fact, these guys would probably lean more toward feminism than anything else).

By the way, it would appear that as of 2009, Tucker Carlson is still butt-hurt over having lost his job because of the shitstorm of truth unleashed by Jon Stewart.
