wbs without spawning

Would it be possible to just birth wbs without spawning or casing? I have a extra pint of wbs that's been colonized for about 5 days now and I don't know what to do with it. I don't have anymore room for another bulk tray so I was just gonna put it in my fc and birth like you would a pf cake?? Is this possible??

No. Grains, and especially wbs, don't hold enough moisture to support successful fruitbody formation. You can try to fruit it invitro, with pathetic results. Maybe you could fruit it in the jar and put a casing layer on top of it. That should work at least somewhat.

Thought I've seen a lot of people here fruiting WBS cakes, some with surprising results after a good dunk and roll?

And in my reading here, the majority say that casing doesn't increase yield when you're talking about smaller cakes.
I realize a lot of people use wbs to spawn to bulk, but I used to use wbs cakes all the time and it worked just fine. I also cased them sometimes, too, but never really saw a huge difference in results.

It's not about the yield, it's about the environment for pins to form in. As for your cakes, you were using strait WBS, no verm or anything?

ive been reading the mixed reviews and am actually trying a couple cakes out one dunked 4hrs in cold water and one undunked in a fc with around mid 90s rh the dunked cake is starting to knot whereas the undunked still looks like a cake pulled from the jar either way neither look great.

YES!! It will grow! To all the nay-sayers and people who comment on something they dont know, look at my avatar. That is STRAIGHT WBS rolled in verm! I get pinsets on the jars fruiting invertro as well!
I use pint and 1/2 pints. Check my link in my sig for more pics and results!

Ok thanks slappy its in a bowl with a plate on top as we speek. So from your experience how much do you usually get from a one pint jar done this way in optimal conditions?? Dry gams. These are EQ. Just curious.

slapp, do you use room temp water or fridge-temp water? Seems like the room temp or warmer is better from what I've read.

I use tap water set as cold as possible. You want colder water to keep contams from growing, otherwise your cakes might start to ferment.

This varies greatly from strain to cultivator, however my F+ cakes get 4.5-7 dry grams for the first flush, 3-6 for the second, and so on... I get about 4-5 flushes with an average of 10-15 grams dry. I don't really notice too much more weight from pint to 1/2 pint. 1/2 pints do VERY well with this and pints do OK. maybe an extra 3-5 grams more than a 1/2 pint?
