nature of existence
    #14468033 - 05/17/11 01:50 PM (12 years, 8 months ago)

is existence dependant upon sensory experience? many would argue no because we have instruments which can measure things which exist, but are these instruments not just simulated sensors? maybe existence is a relationship between sensor and sensed, maybe neither exist without their counterpart.

this brings up a very fundemental possibility, the cause of existence could be that every particle has its counterpart which can sense it or recognize its character. like a domino effect, each particle would give rise to the next by creating a sensory relationship. this relationship could be the creation of energy/existence. big bang

this would still leave the question, how did the first relationship start? what are these two components made of? why was there even potential for anything to begin with?

just a thought

False pretenses of objectivity usually come from peoples' arrogant assumption that their viewpoint is the correct one and that their knowledge is superior.

So what does it mean to believe in an objective Universe? To believe that everything is objective? If everything is objective, then we are left with no room for subjectivity. Then again, if everything is subjective, then we are left with no room for objectivity. Our options: dualism, or a dissolution of the boundary between object and subject.

Well, dualism is basically indefensible, IMO. It's riddled with problems. So we are left with monism, wherein the subject and the object are one and the same. Is existence sensory-dependent? Sure. Are senses existence-dependent? To exactly the same extent.

Your senses don't exist in a vacuum. You are always aware of objects. But, likewise, objects don't exist in a vacuum- they are always perceived and their nature is dependent upon the particular perspective from which they are viewed.

well said. not that we can know anything for sure anyway but its important to create a model with the best theories you have access to at that exact moment!!
