Wow... I don't have to work for an entire year
    #14467573 - 05/17/11 11:57 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

I just recieved enough money that if I choose, I can not work for the next twelve months and still afford rent, groceries, beer and weed.

I am... free!

I will still have school of course, But I like school. I think I will focus on reading, writing, exercise, meditation and gardening.

I have to make the most of this !

What a blessing. Just wanted to share.

you can now become a trustafarian:

--------------------

"We are all intoxicated. We were born into an insane asylum, a world crazy-making. We believe what we see and hear. The real myth is the myth of sanity, of rationality: it's a disease that is eating away at the earth. All the poisons flow from our denial. We deny madness, we forget our crimes, we dismember the corpse, we imprison our children. We need poison to poison the poison, to remember the sacred nature of intoxication, the green body of the young god." ~ Dale Pendell

Congratz on that!  Just remember that a year can go by really fast and you don't want to go from having it made to living paycheck to paycheck.

Invest that shit. Live like a king forever, or lose it all - which you'll end up doing anyway.

Any suggestions on how best to invest some of it?

I don't get it all at once, rather it is deposited in my account biweekly like a paycheck, but I can set some of the money aside, save it and then invest it in something, and I will aim to do that.

No, I didn't get it from my parents , although they have helped me out plenty before. I actually got a $17, 500 scholarship.

Its not enough to retire on by any means, but it should cover rent, groceries and recreation for at least a year with some left over to save.

Ill try my best to make it last and not waste it.

that's all you got and it is rationed to you bi-weekly and you have to live off of it, and still invest some?

that's like me saying i am going to save my $300 a week unemployment money for the next year and buy a yacht.

Well, I should be recieving close to $2000 a month. My rent is 1000 a month and I split that with my wife. So even If i paid the entire rent, that would still leave 500 a month for groceries, 300 for pot and beer and 200 for savings.

And that is not counting the fact that my wife will be contributing to all expenses as well.

So I think it is realistic to live of it for a year, for me anyways.

"how did u manage to acquire such a scholarship?"

I just applied. It was a long hard process, and competitive. This is my second year applying for it, and this time I got it.

Its called the SSHRC (Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council) Joseph Armand Bombardier Canada Graduate Scholarshop.

I also got a 12 000 dollar UMGF but unfortunately I am not allowed to hold both and will have to decline the UMGF.

I put about half that away each year for retirement.

My preference is to live 30 years without working.
