The movie was PHENOMENAL. Very eye-opening, very informative, much applause, many laughs, many 's at some of the shit said in it, and dwpineal THANK YOU FOR DONATING THE PENDANTS. I got a sweet LSD pendant with the eagle within the pyramid (though LSA is my favorite over LSD, I'll wear it synonymously) and it would've been awesome if you'd sent in a pendant too! >_<
No problem! I love how the community comes together to show support for what we believe in. Wear it in good health . It's funny you mention the DMT pendants, I was looking at what I had sitting out (most everything was packed away for summer tour, so I only had a small selection still out to send), and didn't have a cool DMT one handy
But anyway, I donated 100% of the money from the pendants to the Exile Nation Project, so I'm hoping it generated a few extra bucks for them. Soooooooooo YogaBunny, do we have any accounting on how the pendants did?
And how was the screening? Sunset_Mission says it was a success, so that sounds awesome - updates please

dwpineal - thank you soooooo much for donating the pendants. you are such a bright light in this community and i speak for everyone at exile nation media when i say we appreciate your generosity so deeply.
with that said, unfortunately we did not sell any at the screening.
we did not have nearly as many people in the audience as we expected and fell pretty short of our fundraising goal. if you don't mind, i am going to hang on to them for a bit. my friends have some fundraisers coming up for their burning man art project, and i want to see if they'll let me have space to set up and try to collect donations for the pendants there.
even though we didn't reach our monetary goal for the night, the room was still pretty full and after the film we had an AMAZING Q&A with Daniel Pinchbeck, Michel Negroponte, Dimitri "Mobengo" Mugianis, Julie Holland, Eric Sterling, myself, and Charles. The discussion was starting to get REALLY good when the space started giving us the evil eye and we had to cut it short with at least 3 more questions on deck.
all in all I learned A LOT and am so grateful to have had the opportunity to organize this event and to be part of this project. the message is so important and bigger than us all and it really deserves continued exposure to a wide audience. so, i hope we reach our kickstarter goal and will be able to continue screening the film and building the archive of interviews online.
Christian Parenti was supposed to be on the panel, but had to fly to Pakistan to cover the Osama bin Laden hoopla as soon as the death was announced. His interview is now available to watch in full here:
stay tuned as we continue to release more full interviews. i am especially excited for jean marlowe and sanho tree!!!

I love the end of that interview, pertaining to FB and how we create files on ourselves. It's so true, that's why I haven't even actively used my FB page in the past 2 years. Wonderful work as always!

This movie is too socialist. When they talk about crime they slmost exclude theft, because they know that they are actually advocating theft. Taxes are theft, any talk of "reducing crime" by "redistributing wealth" is a joke. They are just legitimizing crime and putting the control of it into the hands of politicians.
We should support freedom in all its forms. Freedom to do what we want with our property, including our bodies. How anyone can say that I should have my money stolen from me because someone is too poor to support the child they VOLUNTARILY brought into this world is beyond me. I don't have any kids, because I CAN'T SUPPORT ANY.
The whole foundation of the war on drugs is that "society" somehow has the right to tell us what to do with our property, if you say that they do have that right, except when it comes to drugs, you have no real philosophical foundation and thus no legitimacy.

Also by focusing this documentary on socialists and a socialist outlook you are alienating the individualists. Currently the more individualistic party is the Republicans who are illogically the party that most supports the socialistic idea of "drug prohibition".
Since the Democrats are the more socialistic party and also the party who'se subscribers are more anti-"drug war" your preaching to the choir WHILE alienating the people you SHOULD be preaching to.
I'm both poor and cheap so I'm not donating either way, but if I had money to waste on trying to reform politics I wouldn't be spending it on you guys.

I am going to forward your feedback to Charles, as he will be the best person to respond because he is way more knowledgable about the politics of it all.
We truly do appreciate the negative/constructive feedback as much as the positive, but I'm afraid I do not understand these posts.
The film is about the war on drugs so that's what everyone is focused on talking about. I think everyone in the film has different opinions on the next step beyond full on prohibition but the general message is that the current policies are NOT working, that they must change, and that we should all indeed have freedom over our own selves. you call all the Drug War victims and Drug Policy Reform advocates from the film "socialists", and then call Republican drug war supporters socialists as well. this confuses me.

I was saying that the people in the film, except maybe the guy in the red shirt are advocating redistribution of wealth and talking highly of socialism almost as much as they are talking about the drug war, and this irritates me.
When I mentioned the Republicans I was sort of taking a jab at socialists/ism by saying that advocating the drug war is a socialist policy, in fact its the main one the Republicans ignorantly support.
See if you have the right to take someones money, tell them how to run their business, tell them what to do with their land and also force them to pay their workers an artificially high wage, it isn't that much of a jump to tell them what they can put into their bodies.
The drug war, like all the other programs/ideas that are spoken so highly of by some of the people in that movie, is based on the idea that "society" has the right to interfere with two sane adults interacting with each other voluntarily. I disagree with this premise entirely, but the people in the movie agree with it except for drugs, which isn't really a coherent position.
I think you can either advocate freedom and free ascociation or you can advocate socialism, which involves the government telling you how to live your life, with the drug war as one subset of it. Anything in between is like trying to talk out of both sides of your mouth, its illogical.

and i just don't know how you make the assumption that all the people in the film advocate the government telling us what to do except for the drug war. the topic of the film is the war on drugs so that's naturally what everyone is talking about.

This is suppose to be a constructive thread about the film and talk about the drug war. If you really want to get into a political discussion I think it should be in a new thread. I just think going further into the discussion of politics not related specifically to the drug war take away from the point of this thread.
While I don't agree with him I think I can clarify Hash's point though. In the film they talk a lot about legalizing and taxing the sale of drugs and providing social programs to help addicts, reform the prison system, and help those affected by the drug war which are technically "socialist" views since it is still government regulating our lives. He feels that the people in the movie supporting those things are just as bad as those regulating the legality of drugs because it interferes with individualism. But like I said, that isn't really the point of the movie and deserves another thread to discuss it further. Just my 2 cents though.

Your wrong about the specifics, right about the general idea. I wasn't refering to the taxing although I disagree with it. I was talking about the guy with the short hair rambling on abouth wealth redistribution and other liberal programs which have NOTHING to do with the drug war. Its in the first half of the film.
You are right about the general thrust of my comment, but it seems you all misread or ignored my constructive criticism.
Basically I think that there is too much liberal talk in this and not enough conservative, for lack of better terms. The liberals already think the war on drugs is bad, so its a wasted effort talking to them. This film should focus more on winning over the people who actually support it, the conservatives. My point is that your alienating them by talking about socialistic programs, you should be focusing on things that appeal to them, like the fact that for 2/3rds of America's history drugs were legal.
To be honest I was disappointed and only watched about half of it, so that might play a role here.
