Cuisinart PC
    #14463818 - 05/16/11 06:36 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Just got my spores in the mail and prepped my jars as the PF tek. Using this electric PC

http://www.google.com/products/catalog?hl=en&sugexp=ldymls&xhr=t&q=cuisinart+pressure+cooker&cp=12&pq=cuisinart&safe=off&bav=on.2,or.r_gc.r_pw.&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=shop&cid=5924588422164263315&sa=X&ei=zcDRTafBLoOssAOS__SlCQ&sqi=2&ved=0CEsQ8wIwAA&biw=788&bih=730#ps-sellers

Not sure if its working correctly though, the steam is rising from the sides of the pot rather than the little steam nozzle, and there are little pools of water and condensation pooling up. Is this normal? I added enough water to get to the bottom of the jars but I'm worried that it might not be enough. Does anyone have experience with this brand of PC? Is this normal?

Timer has been stuck on 60 for the last 45 minutes, manual says it doesn't start until pressure is reached. It can't be normal to have little pools of water around the lid...

if steam is escaping around the lid, it's not sealing.
does it have a gasket? it may not be seated properly.

I cook food in that same one at least weekly, and no that isn't normal. There should be an aluminum plate (with holes) with the gasket attached underneath the lid. This keeps things from blocking the vents. You can pull the little knob attached to it and the whole assembly will pop out ( it is attached in the center ). The gasket separates easily for cleaning.

Make sure the aluminum part isn't warped.
Check the gasket for tears, stuck food, cracks...
Check that the rim of the pot is smooth since this is where the gasket seals.
Make sure nothing in the pot is pressing against the aluminum plate.

When I put pints in I have to look under the lid as I put the top on to make sure that little knob goes between the jars instead of pressing one of them. Plus I bent the little legs on the wire rack (that keeps the jars off the bottom) to the side a little bit so that the jars would sit lower in the pot.

Hope you figure it out.

Fixed my problem, I guess I can't fit two layers of 1/2 pint jars in and have the lid still properly seal. 4 at a time is going to go painfully slow but it'll have to do.

Whats the least amount of time I can let them cool off in the PC without messing anything up? I know the tek suggests to let them cool overnight inside the PC but I'm going to do 24 jars it'll go painfully slow.

Letting out the pressure can throw off moisture content by making condensation in the jar, you should let them cool at least 6-8 hours before removing lid/pressure.

Once the cycle finishes, the PC will go into "keep warm". I think that the pressure will drop enough for you to be able to open it within around 10 min.

Are you using the little wire rack that came with the PC? You may be able to fit the double stack if you bend the legs a little - like 45 degrees. It'll keep the jars off the bottom, plus your jars may clear the aluminum guard.

No mine didn't come with a rack I'm using 3 rings at the bottom with a layer of tin foil.

I borrowed it from a friend, didn't buy it new

So now the question is would it be better to inoculate them 4 at a time or wait and do them all at once.

Wait, unless you want to clean and set up everything more than once...

I think I'll do them 12 at a time since I'm doing two different strains. Thanks for all the great help guys.
