Identification Request [ NOW WITH possible ID?]
    #14463878 - 05/16/11 06:53 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

well, it doesnt seem like it should, but this one has stumped me. i don't know if its just a brain fart or what. but i cant figure it out. and i also cant wait for a spore print but ill post it when i get it. i know its a bitch move to do that but ima do it anyway! just to see if maybe someone will recognize this mushroom.

Habitat:
Where does it grow? Eg. woods, pasture, state, province, country, altitude, etc. What does it grow on? Eg. soil, dung, wood (dead, living, what kind of wood?), etc.
VanCity BC. Growing from the dirt and mud. i dont think there is any wood underneath.

Gills:
the gills were attached to the stem. here are some pictures of the gills:

Stem:
most were about an inch long and a cm wide. Hollow, but tough a fibrous. most were a dark brown that may have been bruising. some were a lighter brown/orange closer to the cap. the pic above i hope shows the stem well enough.

Cap:
the largest looks about an inch in diameter. the mature mushrooms look about from dime size to tooney size. dark brown. fading to a lighter tan.  smooth. here are some pictures of the caps:

Spore print color:
i know ima noob. im taking the spore prints now. i just couldnt wait.

Bruising:
i dont think they were bruising but the stems may have been bruising a dark brown.

Other information:
here are some more pictures:

i dont even want to venture a guess at this point. i know that once i see the spore deposit ill know exactly what they are. but until then i guess ill wait and see. anyways at the very least i hope you enjoi the pictures!

------------------------------------------------------

I went back to where i found them and i took some more pictures. im am very pleased and excited with what i found and that i was able to capture it "on film". these next pictures are of pins i found. they were incredibly tiny! id say the largest ones were not even a mm tall.
i have 2 sets here. the originals and then an edited version for each with the pins circled. BTW does anyone know how i can get the full sized pictures into my post? it will make it alot easier to see. anyway, here are the pins:
This one didnt come out as clear as i would have liked but you can still see them fairly well when the photo is full size.

and this is the edited version. the pins are circled in red. circled in blue is a teeny tiny bug i didnt even see until i look at the picture close up and zoomed in

this set is much clearer. when zoomed in and full size you can see them all in detail. im quite proud of this photo. Original:

and the edited version. notice the pin circled in blue. it almost look gelatinous.

also here are some more pictures of the more mature specimens.

I could not find any evidence of a veil ever being present. here is a gill shot of a very young specimen and one that is slightly older:

I hope you all enjoi this second installment as much as i am. there is much MUCH more to come! i am heading over to the college now. to get some lab work done. i will return with the results!

This Installment Brought to You By Fry. Stay Fryed Shroomery!
-------------------------------------------------------
ok well this is the best i could get with my shitty communist meekro-skope. hopefully i get lab time soon and get to see this unnder a decent scope. im not sure how much these will help if at all, but i hope you enjoi them anyway. here are the pictures i got.

SPORES:

from what i could see through my scope, they are elliptical and smooth.

GILLS:

these im not too sure what to make of.

well there they are. i hope they help in some way. oh yeah. and theres this as well!!

THE MIGHTY SPORE RIVER!!!!

thought it was cool so i recorded it and thought id share!

anyways. this pics help out at all? give anyone an idea?

The genus they most resemble is Psilocybe, section Deconica or Coprophila because of the lack of obvious blue bruising. Since they fall into the LBM range of things, without using a microscope they're going to be pretty tough to accurately ID beyond that.

Happy mushrooming!

I found some of those in nw Washington near the border (something Bay) in the grass growing next to pan subs. The really mature ones have caps like ps cyans. I think there a galerina sp.

If you can't find one, shuffle down the way a little, a little change of scenery or a view from a different angle may give you the insight you need.

the buttery appearance to the cap makes me think otherwise. i dont think they look Psilocybe or Deconica. were missing something here. maybe more pics would help?

p stuntzii?  Wild guess... Never seen one in person...

Actually... With some a 190 pysilocibe species, could be a less documented non-bluing species?

They look friendly!
