humidifier question

i have an ultrasonic in my closet along with some monotubs... my question is- does the blue light from the humidifier ruin my light cycle? i taped over the front where the light was coming through the most, but there are other spots that the light shows through from and i cant tape those spots up...

thats the humidifier if it makes a difference

the light shouldnt be powerful enough to affect the mushrooms. mushrooms dont actually grow from photosynthesis anyway!... also fyi, dont ever try to do a tank expansion on an ultrasonic. mine has to be set in a turkey pan on bricks cause it leaks now. again just for future reference.

Light is beneficial to mushrooms during all stages of growth, light won't make them pin early, give em some ambient room light it is good for them...

the light from the ultrasnic want effect anything, it wont be bright enough or in the right spectrum.
now the quyestion is, what do you need a humidifier for ifyour using monotubs.

i have them on a 12/12 light cycle (6500k) from the day i spawn my wbs to coir... actually from the day i knock up my bags... i just meant at night when the light is off.

so this brings me to a new question since you are humidifying your closet. do you have some plastic sheeting around the area so you dont start growing mold around. are you running the ultrasonic 24/7?

walls are covered in plastic tarp as well as the floor, and closet in cleaned often with bleach water to prevent that from happening... not running 24/7 either, just keeping the RH around 60

No need for humidifier. I just finished my first grow ever with 2 monotubs.
I made an error and drilled 3.5" holes instead of 2" holes. The RH in my grow room has a low of 20 and high of 35. Average is 30. I get plenty of fruits, and have zero problems. None of the fruitsshow any signs of low RH. (usually split or cracked tops are a clear sign of not enough RH).
IF you do 4" subtrate with the proper field capacity you will be set. I followed Damion5050's elementary coir tek and it was "perfect".

hahaha i used the same tek for my coir. thanks for the input. i did have 1 problem though for some reason. i used 1:2 ratio of wbs to coir with a very very thin layer of coir on top to cover exposed grains. did 6 tubs and not one of them fully colonized (in 15 days). i thought that maybe it just looked uncolonized on the top because of that extra layer but i looked on the sides and it looks the same. there were short periods of time when my closet reached around 85 farenheit but not for more than a couple hours at the most. i did have an issue with the tubs starting to dry out though and i think thats what may have caused this. does coir usually look completely white when fully colonized or is it supposed to still have brownish-colored areas?

Coir never hardly ever looks fully colonized, if it is just coir/verm I would go ahead and fruit it. You have pics?
This is a pic of one of my fully colonized coir/verm tubs, sorry for quality it was taken through the tub.

You essentially cased your sub before it was colonized, you want a little spawn showing on the top so it can colonize the top more easily. The only time you want to cover it with a casing layer is when it is fully colonized in a tray to hold the moisture/humidity level steady since it is in a tray. It is not necessary or beneficial enough to risk contam by casing your cubes, cubes do not need casing.

also if you look closely at the second pic, can anyone tell me what those clusters of white dots are? are they hyphal knots that are going to become pins? bacteria? i see them in all of my tubs

Yes, hyphal knots. They may become primordia if they don't abort.
