    #14425157 - 05/09/11 03:21 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

So I'm from cali, a co-worker gave me a couple of mushroom prints and i got the necessary materials to do the pf-tek.
Yesterday I saw my jars colonizing and i got the biggest boner! I'm fuckin stoked.
anyway im in need of a new syringe, anyone know where i can get one (not online preferably ) i heard you can get them at pet stores, but are you able to get them at pharmacies?
i also wanna start casting any advice?
i plan on using this site for a reference, i love it!

thanks for all the info everyone!

ill be putting pics of my mushrooms on here soon!

Go to a feed store. They don't ask questions and are happy to guide you to the biggest syringes they have. Just tell em you're a junky and the little bastards you get at the pharmacy just don't cut it anymore!

If you've got one of these near you, I highly recommend them.  They have tons of stuff, even scalpels and IV tubing.  I just went and bought a few more 60cc monsters yesterday.

Thanks! Do you know of any good mixtures for the mist bottle? I'm going to be putting my cakes in the fruiting chamber soon and from what i read misting and fanning is really important! so just water in my spray bottle? or do i mix it with some kind of disinfectant?
also roughly how many grams does each cake give you?

pick up some gallons of distilled water for your misting. Thats all that you want in the bottle.

Each cake should yield 3-15 grams dry depending on a million factors :bigjoint:

Monotub
How easy would you be,
If I could make you while eating
Me some hot coochie?

Very easy it would be,
Said the monotub to me.

Together the monotub and me
Said cheerfully,
Fucking pf tek sucks some
Fat Wang.

Okay thanks for the advice everyone!
well could you explain why the pftek is so bad. I am a beginner and from what i read this is a good tek to start with.
also i have a Question: so my jars are fully colonized with the exception of the bottom of the jar. today i noticed that there are drops of moisture along the side of the jar. this is obviously due to 1.putting to much spore water or 2. the substrate contained too much water. but there is no indication of contamination. its milky white, no green! so is this a bad thing or will my cakes be ok? anything i could do? i put a layer of verm on top and its covered with foil. should i ventilate it by taking off foil?
comments appreciated!!

PF Tek I think is great to begin with. Monotubs require alot more work and knowledge from what Ive read although the rewards seem worth it  but I'd (well I am, lol) master the PF tek first before moving onto monotubs due to the fact that there are less steps and therefore less chance of errors.

(heres a link that explains better then i can)
http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/14461276#14461276

As for the condensation on the sides of the jars Im pretty sure thats just from the mycelium as it produces heat whilst growing and/or from temperature fluxuations,
I'm sure a trusted cultivator will correct me if Im wrong.

Welcome to the shroomery

EDIT : Yeah I would definately take the foil tops off to allow for more gas exchange, the dry layer of verm will act as a contamination barrier, and remember to let them consolidate for 4 - 7 days before birthing

I made this post earlier, and I here is the reasons IMO why PF cakes
are GREAT for those starting out into this hobby:

I always advocate starting with cakes for the following reasons, none
of which yield has anything to do with, 12 cakes will give you MORE
then enough doses to get your feet wet with:

-To learn the life cycle of Ps. cubensis
If you do not know the growth parameters and life cycle growing a batch
of cakes to start is in your best interest. Once you understand what
cubes need to grow as far as moisture, misting, fanning, lighting, etc
go it will be a lot easier to take care of bigger projects. IF on the
other hand you do not have a grasp of cubes growth cycle you are more
likely to make mistakes and not provide proper care for your bigger
projects, which result in bigger failures.

-To learn the basics of sterile procedure
If you cannot make and inoculate 12 BRF cakes under sterile conditions
you have almost no hope of doing the same with grain jars. The simple
procedures needed for growing BRF cakes instill the skills needed
to eventually move onto grains, and other procedures in mycology
that require a higher level of sterile technique.

-To keep costs low
Making BRF cakes has to be the cheapest method of growing mushrooms
for a beginner seeing as you do not have to invest in a PC. Making
grain spawn is not all that much more expensive(Minus PC) but there
is a bit of a price jump.

-To provide smaller amounts to trip on
12 BRF cakes can easily produce 1.5-3 ounces or more over 2 flush`s
if grown using the proper materials and proper procedures. Even if
you get two ounces, that is still 16 3.5 gram doses for you and
your friends, more then enough.
