Financing Terrorism Terrorism and Tobacco--How Cigarette Smuggling Finances Jihad and Insurgency Worldwide Kate Willson
The IRA Both the Provisional Irish Republican Army and the militant splinter group Real IRA have used cigarette smuggling to finance their operations.
The Taliban In the restive tribal belt of Pakistan — where Osama bin Laden is thought to be hiding — some of the most hunted Taliban militias collect money from cigarette smugglers in exchange for allowing Marlboro knock-offs and cheap local brands to flow into Afghanistan and China.
The PKK The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) long controlled the smuggling routes between Turkey and northern Iraq. Blamed for thousands of deaths since its inception in 1978, the leftist group comprised of Turkish Kurds has sought to establish a Marxist state in southeastern Turkey.
Hezbollah Hezbollah, the Lebanon-based militia and political organization, is also engaged in tobacco trafficking. The radical Shiite group receives a significant percent of its financial support from Iran, but also relies on proceeds from smuggling cigarettes and other goods.
FARC
The CNDP Seven thousand miles from the coca-rich plains of Colombia, in the dense jungles of eastern Congo, rebels allegedly profit from a millionaire tobacco tycoon who recently pleaded guilty to cigarette smuggling.

this^^...
as much as I dislike the smell and that they dry out my eyes....smokers have just as much right to keep poisoning themselves....just like any shroomerite should be able to dose,or any creepy ass tweaker ought to be able to do their thing too...telling the smokers they can't have their substance would just be hypocritical.

Yes and no.
Yes: Idiots will always put something in their body they shouldt and we taxpayers will have to send an ambulance to get them and waste a doctors time to tell that idiot not to do it again.
No: Personal freedom...
If you read my previous post and threads, I'm really 50/50 between legalisation. People seem legalization would solve everything and I do not believe in utopia.

Why are you attaching strings to the argument? Nobody here is claiming that taxpayers should fund their ambulance ride.

Cigarettes are damaging to the nonsmokers too though.
I think cigarette smokers should be designated to certain areas. I had a really good friend whos newborn baby had serious complications due to secondhand smoke

No, the government pays for lots of healthcare but not all. Im just saying that you are confounding the argument with other separate arguments. If you dont want to pay their ambulance bill, then have taxes on smokes pay their bills - or make them pay their own if they are a smoker. But dont confuse the argument of 'not wanting to pay for their bill' with whether or not smoking should be criminalized.

i knew someone eventually would throw this shit in here.
the adverts are illegal in the states yes, you hardly ever see a person smoking on tv anymore an thats ok..
the aditives they put in the tobacco or the bleaching teks they use for the papers..
i remember a few years ago when ben and jerry's ice cream was getting smeared with lawsuits because the bleached paper they used in their ice cream buckets had some cancer causing agent in it..
did we then outlaw ice cream?
no.
we removed the cancer causers..
keep in mind there is no way to take out evrything harmful in a cigarette, thats part of the tobacco's genetic makeup, but we DO NOT have to put things in to keep people addicted or put out our cigarettes when we arent puffing on them every 20 seconds..
as far as being a taxpayer goes Patlal, i pay taxes and i smoke. taxpayers pay out alot of money to things that are more ridiculous than a asthmatic dude that coughed to much because of smoking too much.
i agree with you on this, PEOPLE, not just the stupid ones, will ALWAYS put poison in their body regardless..
we know its bad for us, so is alcohol, so is MDMA, so is psilocybin, so is marijauna (according to federal government) so is every other thing we need to be 18 - 21 to purchase, so is everything drug related that you get from a guy on the street..
starch is bad for us, sugar is bad for us and cholesterol is bad for us, but they are all things that make up the being of who we are, we cant make them illegal...
cigarettes becoming illegal would be like prohibition in the early 1900's, there would be late night cigarette bars, speak easys, and illegal cultivation and consuption of tobacco and nicotene.
it isnt worth the hassel to really even think about it IMHO..Quote:

There is no reason that cigarettes should be ok for human consumption.

My answer is the same for this one.
No, no and fucking NO. It's none of yours, or the governments business what I put in my body.
Fucking period end of story. See comments in other thread for further elucidation, I don't feel like repeating myself 500 times.

Furthermore, giving the black market yet ANOTHER item will just remove our ability to tax nicotine while increasing crime.
