I have a quart of colonized WBS (PE). I would like to to do a G2G using rye grain. Is this ok? I hate working with WBS.

I've never heard of any problems. Grain is a grain is a grain. Make sure your spoon is sterile.

I've done it before and it worked just fine.

WBS is too hard to get the moisture right imo, rye is much easier to colonize and break up and spawn.

If rye was the same price and just as available as WBS then everyone would be using it.WBS can be a pain in the ass sometimes

For real, I did WBS once just to save some money, but I like rye so much better. I think it's worth the price. Go to a co-op, I got mine 50 lbs. for 30 bucks.

Using a spoon only introduces one more variable for contamination.

WBS has its ups and downs but is no harder to properly hydrate and use then rye IMO. I have used WBS and Wheat kernels successfully and while WBS tends to have a bit more of a learning curve, once mastered it is just as easy to use.
To the OP: When I switched from WBS to wheat kernels all my grain masters were made using WBS, and they all transferred over fine to wheat kernels. Grain 2 Grain does not discriminate ;-)

^^This
As long as your transfer is clean and your work area is good, there will be no problems.

i love both !! i use wbs to inoculate my rye and wheat berries..It works better than using rye to rye//"g2g" because the millet and milo in the bird seed are so small, you get more inoculation points when you shake up the bit of wbs to inoculate your rye in jars or inv.bags.. I use 2-3 quarts of rye for 56 quart tubs, and then 2 quarts of wbs well mixed with one quart of substrate for a top layer, for fast colonization..using wbs at the top layer will give you more innoc. points in the substrate compared to rye..but i use the rye for the lower part of the sub,, its just soething i like to do now,,
