psilocybe azurescens soak?
    #14461674 - 05/16/11 11:50 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

hey, i'm making the my substrate for my azures, 66.7% sawdust and 33.3% wood chips ( all alder). i hope all of that is fine for, but i was thinking since i have to soak them, why not and try add nutrition to the substrate while doing so, so i'm thinking of soaking the substrate for 48 in 90% worm tea, 5% worm castings, 5% light malt extract. i dont see how this could hurt anything as long as i'm clean, and so i guess it could add to my yield?

I don't think that is a good idea. Keep in mind: You are not growing Cubes!
If one designs a substrate for a culture it should have several important properties. Some of them are: good ability to retain water, nutritional content and selectivity.
If you add additives that are easily accessible not only to the desired culture but also to contamination, the probability of promoting the latter skyrockets.
Cellulose, however, is primarily only available to your wood loving mushroom. There's a reason why Stamets recommends inoculating soaked carrugated cardboard when cultivating Ps. cyanescens. I know you want to cultivate Psilocybe azurescens yet both species are quite similiar.
After all: No yield is way worse than a potentially small decrease in yield.  :regularshroom: :regularshroom: :regularshroom:
