no pins on cakes

Four years ago I ordered 5 Equadorian syringes from Hawks Eye.When I got them I placed them in the fridge for storage. Two years later I gave 2 syringes to a friend he did everything by the book, using the PF Tek.The spores where slow germinating(12 days}.After 35days he birthed the cakes another 15 days and no pins.I know during storage I lose spore count. My question is,was there not enough viable spores germinating to make a combination that would produce fruiting bodies. I had to dump the other 3 syringes.

BTW,I have no problem with HawksEye and I plan to order more in the near future service was great and Ryche answered a few questions about finding other spores

Maybe after taking so long to colonize, they cakes are too dry! I'd suggest dunking them and then setting them on some moist verm.
