Old PC no Gauge

A cousin's friends mom gave her dog a PC. It is pictured here. The dog wants to know can this be used? It does not have any gauges ,so how do you tell the PSI and the temp? If this can be used, a few hints would help regarding how long, how hot on a electric stove. The old mutt in getting the substrate ready to go. He has a whole pack waiting for the goodies in a month or so......... Help out the mutt please!!

It appears that you have an attachment to go on an ordinary pot. I may be wrong but it doesn't seem very safe if thats what it is. Is there a weight in it?

Or maybe its just a lid to a PC.

Yes, i can see the weight.

It appears that if you find a suitable sized pot, you can set it on, and crank the handle down to create a vacuum.

I have no idea if it will work tho. Be careful if you try it!

EDIT: grammar error

Well I heard the Dog just tested it, and here in the NY, NJ, CT area, it boiled water in 6 minutes . The steam was released out of the top black valve and the red button popped. So it works, so now how does the dog know how long to
" boil the jars" One point..... are they boiling ? The dog assumes it isboiling due to the steam. So 1 inch of water and stack the jars would 15 minutes due? let him know

15 minutes is not enough. 1 hour should suffice.

Is that weight adjustable?

The red button on my friends PC is a safety, it is only supposed to pop when the pressure gets too high and may explode otherwise (very, very bad thing if you are near it when this happens).

Either way, if you are just doing BRF jars then 1 hour regardless if the red button is up should do it nicely. Better than just boiling I assume (at least there will be some pressure).

According to the dog.........The weight is loose and can be moved up and down, it spins when the steam comes out of it .so to hold it down you would have to put somehing on top of it. ( to incread the psi as FAQ suggests) he figures let it steam up over 15 minutes lower the stove and then let the pressure or little little steam escape and simmer it for the 30 min to the hour you suggested.... The dog might just try 12 jars to start... inocculate 4 and let the rest sit in the fridge till he sees that the 4 work ............ and did not get contaminate...... he wants growth and caps the first time out..... lucky dog..............
