Damaged coir when picking

I just picked my first flush off my first bulk grow. Half brick of coir done 4:1. Got 283 grams wet. However I really damaged my substrate. It was coming up in clumps. It pinned early so it never really colonized the entire way like it should, I think. Should I just dunk it and it will be ok or should I repair it with more coir or is it just done now. Is this normal? When I did cakes, they almost fell off the cakes. Any advice from past experience would greatly be appreciated. I would like to flush again, obviously, but I guess it wouldnt be the end of the world.

just dunk it and go for the second flush. Patching it won't help anything. It happens sometimes..it'll still flush again. It's normal

Why would you want to destroy your substrate by pulling the mushrooms out when you can cut them off at the base with a sharp knife and cause no damage at all? RR

Twist them when you pull, or use a knife as RR said, I twist and I barely get any substrate on my mushies

If i cut them at the root, will they not rot? Will that not take up space that other mushrooms cant grow on the 2nd flush?

Did you use coir fibers?

Do whatever you please to pick. I like the finger twist or using some larger tweezers to pull up from base or leverage from underneath and pop the clump of shrooms up. Dry em as popped, and then the substrate will just flake away easily from the bulk of the mushroom base. Further trimming with a scissor pair will take off any more that might have ingrown verm or substrate.
This way you arnt causing a large area to be cut, bruised, and oxidized before its dried and magically locked into the cell walls.
