I'm going to ride my bike, study, and go out to eat. I've also been working mushroom genetics questions.
There is more to life than getting high. Just sayin'

Well I've actually been laying off of mind altering substances for nearly six months now. So I guess you could say that everything I've done in that time has been non drug related. I always take a break for a few months before the summer, but never for this long.
Then again, I only do it so that my tolerance goes way down in order to have better drug experiences come summer. Is that drug related

I can't tell if you are lording your lack of drug use over the forum, or just genuinely interested in our day to day affairs outside of drug use.
Nevertheless, I am an optimistic fellow and thus would like the latter to be true.
And so, today I made morning love to my girlfriend, ran a mediocre mile - and plan to run another tonight (all in preparation for military enlistment).
Spontaneous sit-ups and push-ups spread throughout the day and I even went to Costco (wholesale ftw!) to restock on some supplies, sustenance etc.
However, I can't say I read any books or plan to, can't say I plan to study anything at all.
I detest the act, I've been turned off to the practice as I see a vast increase in individuals learning not for the sake of knowledge but for the label of Diploma and Degree. To make money.
-not to mention those sentimental fools that attribute the attainment of knowledge and articulation directly to the devouring of book after book.
Not for me, nope.
Having said that, I respect those that do choose to read and read, and read some more. What patience..
Also, am I wrong, or is the majority of art & literature today the byproduct of self-centered, self-absorbed, self-obsessed, self-seeking, self-serving egomaniacs?
I just can not get into it without feeling mired in vapid filth.

Why would their motivations stop you from doing it? Pretty weak to not read or study because (you (mostly wrongly, in my experience) suspect) others are doing it for reasons you don't consider noble enough. And reading is a pretty damn good way to gain knowledge.
And plenty of art is done by shmucks; this shouldn't be an epiphany to you. This isn't remotely new. But no one is making you read/listen/watch these people. Find the good ones. You're using other peoples' (supposed) failures as an excuse to not pursue things. Silly.
Today I played my instruments, played a board game with friends, researched neural networks, and watched a bunch of downloaded TV.

Today I'm reading a book about learning, checking the plants every hour or so, maybe go a walk, play some roullette like I promised myself last night. If I win roulette... I'll go buy some maca and take a walk. All the while pondering things... and then get the gold chocobo in FF7. Then, if the mail man has came, brew aya

Do you realize that most academics get paid diddly squat? I would say doctors and lawyers could be in it for the money, but if I had to surrender 7 years of my life to study I would expect a decent paid job as well. As for the sciences for the amount of work that is put in to study and research they, for the most part are pretty average wage earners. I accepted this when I started my degree and realized that im studying it because its what I enjoy, not whats gonna get me filthy rich. Science FTW

Haha don't presume BoomShroom!
I am by no means entering the military under conventional terms. My career is specialized in linguistics (they seek to utilize my knowledge of Hindi, Urdu and Mandarin Chinese for reasons I can not disclose, but are painfully obvious).
I've done "my time", I've been through college and graduate school. Again, so silly of you to presume. You know, it doesn't pay to be so cynical, I was just expressing my inability to sit and read, and even marveled at those who can.
Moreover, no need to refer to the military in such a degrading manner: "the real murican way...FREEDUM!!"
We exist for a reason, as do most other career fields, including yours. I have immense respect for you, as you are not simply in it for the "label" I had referred to.
Still, I mourn your degrading tongue and hope in the future you may be slightly more sensitive when directly referring to another's life. Damn it, you just don't know the half of it.

The deep-seated distaste that reverberated from my initial post was founded during my eight years of "higher-education".
As I sought to master the languages of the world, to pursue my passion and dream to be able to communicate with others, no matter my location - I came across an overwhelming majority of those selfish types I had described above.
It made me so sad to see the vast majority attending my school only obssesed with sucking-up to the teacher, cramming hard for their tests, achieving the desired grade - and then subsequently having mental dysentery, letting go of everything they had so eagerly learned - it was all for appearances.
Keyword there is my. Thus, perhaps the most unfortunate thing of all is/was the specific collegiate environment I had been attending, as I am sure there are others, like you and me, in it for the love of their subject.

Good to hear. I'm writing a paper now, dealing with medical insurance stuff, and going to study, tonight. Also going to workout around 7:30-8pm. Then, I'll probably put in more hours studying, tonight, in prep for my finals early June.
