Wondering if clear garbage bags can be used to fruit
    #14456237 - 05/15/11 01:22 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

I have been using monotubs for a while with decent success, but I don't want to keep buying more tubs. I have been using four grocery bags per tub to reduce losses from contamination and to make it easier to harvest off the sides and bottoms without breaking the cakes. Now I would like to try using just the bags without the monotubs. I know there are a few different teks for growing in-vitro or from grow bags, but I never see anybody using only garbage/shopping bags to fruit.

My question is, has anyone had any luck fruiting wbs/coir in shopping/garbage bags instead of tubs? I know the main problem will be retaining humidity and moisture while allowing sufficient fae, but from some of the stuff I've seen on the shroomery, it seems doable.

Anybody have any useful ideas or input? It would be greatly appreciated.

Can't you reuse your tubs?

Yes, I've re-used them plenty of times. I was thinking that the mushies seldom grow anywhere near the top of the tubs I'm using, so in theory I could have more bags fruiting on a shelf system than the tubs if the overhead was lower. Also, I have only a few tubs, but a gazillion grocery bags.

Use your tubs and master your technique.
