Some say they tape the holes and throw it in a bag, others simply stuff the holes with polyfil and place it under a blanket to colonize. Does it really matter? does the tub need ge during colonization?

Yea I believe it does need GE. So place some micropore tape over the holes or stuff them with polyfill.

Yes it will benefit from GE. But this is a balancing act that needs some trial and error before you will get it right. If you give it too much GE you will get too early pinning. But if you get the right amount of GE during colonization you will notice a better growth.
I like to tape the holes and let the GE happen at the lid. Every other day i will give just a short fan (1-2 sec.)
One thing is for sure: Sealing airtight is a bad move.

What he said. Except I don't fan mine during colonization. No need to put it in a bag.
