all i have to do is submerge in cold water for 12 to 24 hrs then take out rinse then proceed to crumble right? all these dunk tek posts seem over complicated..dvd is a summery of how to use what is procided for you im trying to make better use of a good product instead of 3 cakes id like to have the entire container floor growing shrooms

Thats what I do, less the crumbling.  I use a large pot, fill with water, birth cakes and rinse them, then put in the pot and place a plate over the cakes to make sure their fully submerged. then i put the pot lid over the pot and come back a day later.

if i remember correctly you don't dunk your cakes when you crumble them. The horse poo should be properly hydrated(in the future you can use coir). also crumble them as soon as they hit 100%. don't let them consolidate like you would if you were fruiting them because it will slow down the colonization of the horse poo(bulk substrate).

Go buy a plastic tote, some perlite, and make a shotgun fruiting chamber.  That tank doesn't look like it has any holes on the sides or bottom to create air flow for FAE.

You said you bought the Horse Poo pre pasteurized so it should have the right moisture content. coir comes in dehydrated bricks I suggested it because Its easier to get for some people than H poo. Also its great to mix coir and H poo. Look up RR's video on field capacity. It will show you how to get the moisture content right.http://www.mushroomvideos.com/Horse-Manure-Substrate. You should watch all those videos.

No you would not. H poo and coir are bulk substrates and can not be inoculated with spores. Only spawn can be inoculated with spores such as Brown Rice Flour cakes(BRF)and grain spawn like Wild Bird Seed(WBS) and Rye berries. Also you always sterilize spawn in a pressure cooker but you never sterilize bulk substrates. You have to pasteurize bulk substrates.

Bud, do you mean like boil jars with WBS (wild bird seed) or BRF (brown rice flour) in them?

Well yes you do.. you steralize these to ensure no contamination occurs during colonization.  (most people pressure cook vs. boiling but it works the same way.)

You must use a pressure cooker for grain spawn like wbs. You can use a pot with a tight fitting lid for brf cakes. Make sure to sterilize for at least 60 min but 90 min is highly recommended. :goodluck:

this is my first time and i have made a total of 14 jars so far using 90 min steam times for BRF jars and not 1 contam yet. o i can also only steam 3 at a time(one if it is using my plastic containers).
