Wild yellow / orange mushroom id

Some people I met in a forest today were collecting these mushrooms. They said they were edible, but I've not matched it to any of the common edible varieties.
They grown beneath pine trees, on their own (not in clusters). Where the centre of the mushroom dips in, it is quite slimy to the touch with a slightly different color to the rest of the mushroom. The stem is hollow.
Thanks.

I picked them in South Africa (coastal region), if that helps.

I know nothing of african mushrooms, but my guess is something like lactarius camphoratus...how do they smell?

Lactarius deliciosus.
They will bruise green, and are found around pines. One weird thing about them is that they have weird brittle stems, they break apart like crumbly cheese. Tan spore print.
Eat em up, they gooood.

those should have a solid stem and these don't, but what do I know? I also don't see one speck of green and they seem a little small

They smell like very much like regular white button mushrooms one buys at the store.
The stem is definitely hollow and brittle.

I think that's it. The third picture down on the page linked below, shows a section through the mushroom. And although not entirely hollow, it seems likely that there will be some mushrooms where the white material at then centre of the stem is less densely packed, giving the impression of it being hollow: http://australianfungi.blogspot.com/2007/05/15-lactarius-deliciosus.html

That's not true. They have a hollow stipe.

Yeah hollow stipe, and usually a latex...I can already see where the gills have been sliced to observe any latex. Do you see any milk coming from the gills?
When he said solid stipe he might have meant that Lactarius' (as well as Russula) stems break in half like chalk (not fibrous)...a solid structure. But yes, mature Lactarius have hollow stems, adnate or decurrent gills, and tend to create a funnel with a depression in maturity, among several other characteristics.

my books don't mention a hollow stem, in age for l. deliciosus Looking closely at the gills in the second pic, it looks like latex may have stained some of the flesh red, ruling out deliciosus, but indicating something like L. Thyinos. What species is a saffron milk cap?

I found this the other day, also notice the orange specks on the stem. Saffron milk cap = Lactarius deliciosus = pine mushroom.
They are good!

Delicious! And what I like about eating them is there's no chewiness - they just dissolve between the teeth. Kinda like very soft chicken.
It's cool to find another food in an area I spend so much time in.
