Melbourne/Vic Inactives and Edibles 2011
    #14454592 - 05/15/11 01:51 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

This thread seemed to boogie along rather well last season so I thought I would kick it off again with todays finds.

Little lanky dudes really slimy:

Neat little black mushroom:

Really fragile specimen growing out of (unkown) poop.

Some slime mold/Jelly fungus:

Feel free to join in with any cool finds you have, not just from Vic either.

Happy hunting all.  :mushdance:

Really nice shots!

Not sure what Galerina or what the first is.

The second is an Entoloma and I hope Entoloma moongum because what a cool name.  The third is a Copinopsis sp. and a very fine specimen.  The fourth is Tremella mesenterica.

Thanks Joie!

I can't offer much more about the first one other than the amount of slimy goo on it if you look in the second shot, you can see how thick it is.  It was like an army of snails had a party on it.

Entoloma is what I guessed for the second so I must be improving a little bit hehe.

The Coprinopsis sp was really delicate and awesome looking, I never seem to be able to ID these smaller species, I think I need to do some more research on them.

I seem to have good luck with different Tremella sp. found a few different ones, and they always make my day.

Edit: Spelling....I blame Joie.

Awesome stuff! Nice to see this thread again

Those first mushrooms are really interesting. I have no idea what they are. Try posting them on Mushroom Observer.

Cheers, it was pretty crazy had a big string of goop between my finger and the mushroom at one point, didn't get a good shot of it though.

Limacella would have white spores. These look like they would have rusty brown spores (or at least some shade of brown). There would be lots of possibilities if they were white spored. It seems that no-one on MO has any idea what they are either, but hopefully someone will come along with some insight. They really have me intrigued.

I'll be heading to the same spot this weekend coming so I'll keep my eyes peeled and hopefully bring home a sample to print.

Yeah, wicked.  Although it is never likely to matter to me here in the UK I am also very curious about this observation.

I am kicking myself I didn't bring a sample home with me, I should have realised it was something a bit different.

After going over the pics again it looks like they are growing from dung. It also looks like they are purple spored. Those features coupled with the glutinous stipe would suggest that this belongs in Stropharia subgenus Stercophila. That's the group the includes S. semiglobata and doesn't really belong in the genus Stropharia.

I was thrown by the orange looking ring (assuming that it was due to spore drop), but considering that the base shows a similar discolouration I think it is a bruising reaction.

I think you could be onto something there tbh, I had assumed it was dirt/decayed wood matter but it definately could have been dung.

I had initially thought the spore print would be purple due to the way the gill shots came out, but then I think I confused myself a bit and started looking for anything that looked close without paying attention to the details.

I should have no problems finding them again, they are in some pretty dense bushland but it's an area I hike through often.

Thanks for all the help with this.
