Psychedelics and OCD

Alright, so I have pretty severe OCD that has taken a hold on my life. It literally influences everything I do, whether that is for better or for worse. For example, my fears prevent me from doing certain activities because of failure but my obsessiveness forces me to finish every project on the day it is assigned. On one hand it fucks up my social life, but on the other it makes me a crazy high achieving student.
However, I have heard that psychedelics are a potential cure for my illness. I am wondering whether pursuing my desire to try these substances would benefit my OCD, or make it even worse causing my trip to spiral out of control. I do believe I am ready to go through with this but I always hear that psychedelics can increase the chances of mental illness, or perhaps make an existing one worse. I have a strong mind and believe I will be fine but I would like the opinion of you guys as to whether psychedelics would fuck up my mind. Either way I will be dropping acid for the first time within a month, but I want to know what to expect. Thanks!

Acid helped the shit out of my OCD that's for sure. It's pretty much gone after this one strong trip.
Take it at your own risk

I have heard that psychs can cause temporary OCD in people who do not have it. I have also heard of people recovering from OCD because of psychs.
I don't think it would make your OCD worse, but that is my opinion.
Acid is a wonderful drug, one that I would suggest to most people, at least once.
I hope it helps you with what you're looking for, but if not, you will still have an awesome time!
Most people get out of psychedelics what they hope to get out of them, so go for it. I suggest meditating on it as you take your dose, and it may be more helpful. Just my 2 cents.

Use these substances wisely, they have the ability to cause life altering realizations.

Psychedelics tend to mellow me out more than I already am, I have some OCD as well.
I find it works good for the most part, I find myself being less OCD after an eighth or some tabs.

Psycehdelic use won't make your OCD worse. It will temporarily alleviate the symptoms of it (you wont be as OCD during the experience).
Psychedelics are great teachers. They reset our brains back to it's raw state. Think of performing a fesh install of an operating system on your computer, everything is faster and better but there are no programs yet, you have to choose what you want to install to rebuild your computer.
During a psychedelic trip your mind will be clean and open. As you come down you start to put back together all the things that make you, you. However, if you choose to, you can decide that you want to make a change in your life, so when you come down you can hold on to a notion from the psychedelic realm and bring it back into normality.
Psychedelics have a known effect of temporary OCD alleviation. Try to hold on this feeling and bring it back with you. If you work at it I'm sure the psychedelic can help eliminate or reduce your OCD in the long term, but it wont do it on its own. You have to make the effort.

Psychedelics cannot "increase the chances of mental illness". You either suffer from a mental illness or you don't. Of course psychedelics are an experience, that's why we call it a "trip". Anything that could happen to you from a regular experience (sober trip) could happened to you on a psychedelic experience. For instance, if you get really really scared in real life you may develop PTSD (post traumatic stress disorder). Same goes for psychedelics, if you get really really scared on psychedelics you may develop PTSD also. It's not caused by the drug, it's caused by the subjective experience.
"Drug induced psychosis" has been observed in polydrug abusers before. These people generally do stupid things like staying up for 2 weeks and taking as many different drugs as they can. We could even go as far as inferring that the polydrug abuse didn't cause the psychosis but the psychosis caused the polydrug abuse.
Bottom line: psychedelics are completely safe and will not make you go insane.
Good luck with your first acid trip.

I had severe OCD for about 4 years (during highschool and first year in the university) and I've been cured for about 3 years now.
The thing is no one can be sure if this experience is going to be beneficial or not.
For me OCD is all about self-confidence (of course when you have it it doesn't look that way); it's better to do stupid and irrational things in order to avoid the anxiety of not doing them. Recovering from OCD involves having the courage of resisting this compulsions, and after you've done that, you start realizing that all this irrational perspective of the world is just a subjective opinion and life has more things you can hold on to than doing this meaninless rituals (It was very common of me to think in my worst moments that if didn't do this rituals my reality would colapse and I would't be able to handle it).
Psychedelics are a tool, therefore no one can be sure of their effects because they vary greatly between different people. You can come back from a trip with much more confidence in yourself and more richer view of the world and your place in it (wich would definetly will help with OCD), or you can come back with a greater puzzle in your hands (wich would probably not help).
If you decide to to it, I would definetly recommend a dark quiet place and a trip sitter you can trust.

I do not think it cold hurt.
OCD is in your head. Psychedelics show you very fucking deep inside your head. Might just make a connection about how stupid your obsessions are.
This is coming from a person who has minor OCD tendencies. Most my shit is irrational fear about my eyes and i have wierd things that bug me like how my pinky finger rubs against my ring finger. I can not say tripping has helped or made it worse but i have had some insanely deep thinking about during trips. This has helped me deal /accept it.
ITS ALL IN YOUR HEAD!!!!
good luck
