Considering living outdoors this summer next to a river.

So I've had this idea about living outside this summer. I won't have a job or any responsibilities really so I'm not really having much trouble entertaining the thought.
I'm not thinking like minimalist Bear Grylls mountain man or anything. I'm not looking to live off the land survivalist style. The longest camping trip I've ever been on was 7 days. I'm looking to have this be a couple months.
Anyone have an experience spending a long amount of time living outdoors?

Mostly in the army. Kinda sucks, I prefer hot showers and cold beer.
But you go have fun, and post plenty of pics!

Could you tell me more about your experience? How was bathing? Eating? The "bathroom" situation? I have about a month before I'm able to head out and just want to amass some information from some experienced people.

I camped down a old fire road quite a ways in sometimes I wouldn't see a car for a week I chose a spot right by a brook and I bathed right under the bridge, there was a sweet little graveled bottom pool where I'd just sit sometimes with a beer cold from the brook and read.Life just slowed right down, its like I couldn't even picture all those cars and people and malls.Sure there were crappy days when it rained and having to go to the shitter in the middle of the night( I have a few stories about that I won't get into) Meals were awesome, food never tasted so good or so appreciated.I learned to make the most wicked sliced potatoes and herbs in tinfoil Overall I'd do it again in a heartbeat
Pro Tip: get a good tarp

Shitter like an outhouse? I'll be about 5 miles from the nearest one. Where I'm going to be at isn't exactly a campground. I have a few places in mind. I've been in Washington for a couple weeks but I'm going to head up river when I get back to Oregon and I'll take pictures.
I figure 5 miles isn't to far to shit. I run about 3 miles a day anyways and plan on bringing a bike so a trip or two a day down to an outhouse doesn't seem like much.
Did you have a tent? I'd prefer to spend my nights without a tent as I usually do when camping, but I can see that method not being viable long term. What do you think?

My outhouse was a dug hole behind a big pine lol,it was wilderness I only came out for food and supplies basically and I never ran into another soul.I set up my tent, made a big stone firepit, wood table made out of logs and the all important tarp I mentioned which is a godsend during rain. You can cook under it,store dry wood or just sit so your not cramped in a tent.
what part of Oregon? my gf is from there

The southern coast. I won't be in place as remote as you where. Would probably be running across people multiple times a week.
So would you say a tent is a must? I was thinking about keeping a bed on a tarp on the ground. When not sleeping I would fold the tarp around the bedding like you wrap a present. Then just unfold when I sleep.
Also did you have any trouble with bears?

I wouldn't do it without a tent or a Noah's tarp, try sitting in the rain for a hour and your shits all soaked...no fun
bears weren't a big problem(and I was in a high density bear area)infact not really any animals were a problem If anything where you are it would be cougars,I did a bit of camping around The Sisters and there was a few cougars

I would say a tent is a must for any kind of outdoor living. I like the idea of being able to be enclosed at night and not have to worry about insects and mammals.
I am actually going to be doing the same but only plan on doing it for about a month. I will be in either Northern Arizona or around the Yosemite area in California.
What do you plan on doing for a stable food supply, do you have a vehicle or how are you getting to your campsite? hitchhiking and backpacking?

This will make your bed rot. The moisture of your perspiration needs to evaporate during the day, which requires ventilation.

Ah yeah that seems obvious now. Not sure why I didn't think of it! Looks like I should start looking at buying a tent. I don't think the one I have would hold up for a very long time.

I'd live in a cave if it gave me creative license to use the "been living under a rock" joke to ease tension in social situations. But even then, it'd have to be one pimp ass fuckin cave. With animal furs on the walls and stuff.

I plan on driving there. I want to have my car in case of an emergency. I'm going to load it up with a bunch of canned and dry goods.
But I'm not really going to be secluded. People use the river often and depending on where I choose to camp I probably won't be too far off the major road.

Sleep under a tarp. Not bivy style but under one that I plan to have tied up already anyways. I'm definitely going to buy a tent after all the suggestions though.

Theres actually a lot of old gold mines up there, most of them filled with water, but living in cave/mine doesn't appeal to me.

In Northern Arizona, i can think of several fresh flowing springs, where no one doesnt come close. So basically the best spot you could find for fresh water/with camping. Id always have to camp near a creek or stream where i knew spring water was the source and not just run offs.
