Mushroom Identification Please

Hello there,
I went to the market today and saw these mushrooms. I grabbed a few and the bloke at the till told me that just those 3 would cost me £8.50 - obviously I pretended that I was a veteran mushroom buyer and nodded with confidence and paid.
So if any one could identify these mushrooms and help slightly ease the pain of paying through the nose for this fungi I would be very grateful? And any good tips on how I can cook these to fully appreciate the delicacy would also be very welcome

 Cheers

I'm not sure but it doesn't look like I would eat it - perhaps a white Hypomyces sp. on a bolete.

I don't really see any Hypomyces infection. Looks like some beaten up spring boletes. Should be good. OP, can you please post some larger and more detailed pictures? Search for any bolete recipes on the net, they are one of the best mushrooms. It's still an insane price tough.

Wow, those don't look good. Those are some kind of Boletus, definitely a Porcini relative. But dude.... That's what they look like when they are going bad. Those yellow spots are bad, and it looks like the picker didn't even trim the dirty base off! I can't believe they're selling them in that condition. Also, you have one whole mushroom and two stems.

Yeah it was a farmers market - hence the grubbyness

Looks good to me. I guess the miscoloration is due to lighting and image quality. If they are firm, eat them up, and enjoy!

Boletus species, not sure which one, it's hard to tell without knowing the habitat it was found in, wether it was decidious or coniferous forest. It doesn't matter much anyways, it's one of the good ones. EDIT: btw, ShockValue, OP said 8.50 pounds, which is about 18-20 dollars!!

I've made Julia Child's mushroom soup with Boletus edulis a couple of times. Chez magnifique!

you got ripped off big time
but now you can find it yourself with a little help from the random mushroom hunters scattered to the four winds that roll through

Due to the fat stem toward the bottom, I think they are porcinis.
They are great mushrooms and one of my personal favorites. They go great on burgers and in a pasta sauce. They dry very well and can be stored for a ong time if freeze dried. Just add a little water to wet em back up and voila! Delicious mushroom. (im thinking they are porcini.)
