Newbie ID request in the RDU area NC
    #14451160 - 05/14/11 12:44 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Habitat: Grassy clearing next to a pond at the bottom of a fairly steep hill.

Gills: Tan to darker brown becoming light around the edges. They are free.

Stem: About 2-4 inches. Light brown, becoming white under cap and streaked with what could possibly be spores stuck to it from a heavy rain the night before. Hollow and fairly thick

Spore Print Color: I've only left my caps on a sheet for 2 hours, but the one I checked under was black

Bruising: None noticeable

I appreciate any input and I apologize if this information is insufficient.

Lacrymaria lacrymabunda

Keep looking on grass though (especially ones fertilized with manure), Psilocybe cubensis and Panaeolus cinctulus have fruited in NC in the past week.

EDIT: Actually, this is a well put together ID request

One BroTip: If your digital camera has a macro mode (the symbol is usually a :macrofunction:), when it when photographing your shrooms. As I'm still learning, good photography comes with practice.

Thanks for the help. I've found some that look promising at a nearby university. I'm just waiting for nightfall to collect because of heavy foot traffic.

Just go over there and get them.  They aren't going to be active anyway.  Picking mushrooms is a legal and perfectly respectable hobby.  Take good pictures before you pick them.
