WBS jars, how do they look?
    #14450722 - 05/14/11 11:33 AM (12 years, 9 months ago)

My friend just took these puppies out of the PC, it's presto 16qt and holds 7 jars at a time. 7 jars of WBS which had been let sit overnight in water and then simmered for about 25mins. PC'd at 15psi for 75mins.

They came out a bit drier than I thought they would. Going into the PC, the seed was very much damp, maybe TOO dry? I told my friend, comparing how these seeds look to a mycobag i saw full of rye berries, the moisture content was about right.

I doubt there  too dry. Did you drain them off before putting in jars?

rinsed the seed off 3 times in warm water..real good, removing most of the floaters and sunflower seeds. then, let it sit overnight (14hrs) in distilled water. after the soak i simmered them in a pot with about 2inches water covering for 25mins. rinsed them off again, and loaded them up in the pc for 75mins@15psi.

they aren't so much "dry" as...well i feel like some of them are more shribbled up than i'd expect. pruned up like an old person. there is obviously a lot of moisture in there in the form of condensation, probably due to difference in temps. will some of them being pruned up or burst hinder mycelium?

In between rinsing them and loading them in the jars, you need to let them dry a bit.

Doc's WBS Tek?

Looks good to me but I've not messed with WBS yet. I'm about 3 weeks away from trying. These would be good pics to use as a reference when I start.

If anything they might be too wet if you rinsed them off after letting them drain. I would inoculate them. Do just one jar if your short on spores.  If too wet theyll ferment turn a darker brown color and stall.
