drying them properly

The last grow I did with a monotub, was b+ strain, and people gave me feedback that they werent very strong. I had to litteraly double the dosage. I had dryed them using a heat fan. this new grow I'm drying over a radiator for around maybe 12 aprox. Do you think this reduces consequently the potency? If the thermostat is on, that would heat the shrooms up then they would cool down went the thermostat clicked off etc, which would result in temperature diferences which could possibly result in loss of potency? I cut them through the stem at least once so they dry quicker. could they loose potency like that? Is the blueing (oxidisation) a sign that they have lost potency? (In other words does the oxidization of psylocybin remove its effects) I feel like I'm destroying the potency by "frying" them ontop of a radiator. well I dont put them too close thats for sure.

There's three things that aid drying: heat, moving air, and low relative humidity. As heat is not good, go for the other two.
I air dry mine and have not had any problems. I basically cut a hole it the bottom of a bucket, made some screen-shelves to go in it, and mounted a fan pointing upwards. Drop them in and turn the fan on, and you're good.
It takes about 48hours to get them near cracker dry this way, I sometimes use a dehumidifier to lower the ambient humidity in the room the bucket is in.
When I'm happy with them, I toss them in a jar with silica-based cat litter and put them in the fridge. They will keep for months this way with minimum potency loss.

Just a little desk fan, about 20cm across. You're just looking for a nice movement of air around them.
But yeah, the aquarium pump would most likely be too weak. Go for a fan. You could even just put them in a large-mesh bag and hang them in front of one. Not too many at a time though as you need a large surface area for moisture to escape from.

i heard about a recent monotub B+ grow, and believe the trip was VERY strong at 3.5 dried g. almost too strong at moments. i also heard they were all picked before veils tore, and dried in a cardboard box with folded up paper towels on bottom that had a regular window screen over them (so the product wouldnt stick to paper towel) and just let sit for a day or two. with a box fan on them if youre in a hurry i guess. and of course out of the sunlight.

Why is heat bad? Low heat is how a dehydrator works...if you live around people probably not a good idea to woft mushroom smell all over the place with a fan...

Low heat is fine, but not much higher than room temperature IMO. Though I have had dried ones that stayed potent despite being kept pretty warm. In my experience, longer times at lower temps and humidities beat cooking them.
I just don't think heat is the best choice when they're wet, as not only does it favour mould, but there seems to be anecdotal evidence here of it rendering them inactive/less active.
If you live with people who wouldn't be cool with it, then you shouldn't be living with them, or shouldn't be doing it

there is also lots of anecdotal evidence that LSD stays in your spine and gives you flashbacks when you crack your neck.
so we should all know how worthless anecdotal evidence really is.

Yeah anecdotal evidence is pretty useless, but until I see a piece of peer-reviewed scientific literature saying heat drying is nonsense (and believe me I've looked), then I don't mind being cautious. Especially with the added chance of warm, wet shrooms going mouldy.
Considering there's other methods that use readily available items, it's no problem to dry them without heat.
But heck, I'm all for a good experiment, so if you've got some spare shrooms, go ahead

google melting point of psilocin and psilocybin.
your dehydrator doesn't get that hot yo.

im just saying.
even in that, theres no way you should have to leave any amount of mushrooms in a dehydrator for 3 days.
3 days of oxidation is probably what killed your potency.
not necessarily 3 days of the heat.
my nesco takes like 14 hours to cracker dry some mushrooms ;/

i dry mine in my oven (turned off of course), the heat from the pilot light keeps it warm but not hot. cracker dry in about 48 hours...they work as intended

thats nice but it did take 3 days and they did lose potency ive had plenty of mushroom just sitt around for a week drying in open air and they still where trippy i wont budge on my opinion on the matter nor would i ever waist money on something i can make that is more efficient i will stand firm in my beliefe until some one proves its not right

They take about 12 hrs if I split them, about 20cm over the heater, at max. So they never do actually cool down until I turn off the heater. I'll just have to try them and see!

I made a dehydrator out of a computer fan a couple pieces of PVC and a 35 watt light bulb wrapped in aluminum foil to block the light, it barely even had warm air blowing with the fan on full speed and it dried them cracker dry in about 12 hours with no potency loss, I dried some with no heat and there was no noticeable difference. When you will notice a loss in potency is when you get them too hot or heat them too long.

The light was one of the clip on bendable type that fit perfectly on the end, sry no pic of that part, I loaned it to a friend to use for a while, while I take a break and read up on agar and isolates.
