Working at a National Park

I'm going back to school in August and I want to do something epic before I go back. Right now, I'm stuck in the shitty minimum wage job cycle in my home town.
The idea hit me that I should travel but I obviously can't afford any serious travel unless I'm making money at the same time. Then I found this http://www.olympicnationalparkjobs.com/default.htm
Looks pretty interesting. Of course I'm the sure the jobs suck but being in Olympic National Park in the summer would more than make up for it.
Has anybody ever done this? What is it like? Did you enjoy it? Did you have enough time off to do some exploring? And what were the other people working there like?

I worked in Zion NP last october through november and Im leaving for yellowstone for the next four months on the 27th.
It is super fucking EPIC. Try getting in with Xanterra they are at a bunch of parks.
I was awesome living right in the park, on days off I went hiking or just hung out around the town near by, its bad ass. Since it was in the winter time of year there were days where no one was in the park so I just sat around during the job and got paid and when I got off I had the whole park to myself
I would definately do this if you can, once you get in with them you can come back for seasons or whenever

about 25% of my facebook friends do this sort of thing. They either work at resorts on in national parks. Most of them are at the Grand Canyon or up in Denali this summer. I'd suggest doing it and applying NOW!

Denali would be amazing
I love the idea of making money while you're on vacation. Redwood National Park would be my personal first choice but their aren't many jobs there (I guess because California's economy is so bad). But Olympic, Glacier, Shenandoah, Yellowstone...shit ANY of them would be amazing. I plan on doing this as often as I can.

Denali would be awesome. I also want to check out Zion
I looked into employment with Xanterra but they have minimum length of employment for many of their locations. Generally set at 3-4 months. I was in a similar situation as you where I just wanted to do something over the summer, but with the time requirements it just couldnt work out. Good luck in finding a job (not all of them have time requirements).
If you cant find one this year, maybe ask them what kind of additional training you can do to make yourself a better candidate for next season. Stuff like getting CPR certified will help as well as any classes in survival skills.
Maybe next year look into WWOOF if you havent already
