Naturally dulling the anxiety

Is there a natural way to stop the anxiety from mushrooms? Like something I can eat? The anxiety really ruined a good trip for me because it made me want to fight the trip instinctively, like I seem to do with everything that makes me anxious. The come up especially.

benzos will more or less stop you from tripping when you eat them.

for some people the mere idea that they have the option to stop the trip at any time is enough for them to quell the anxiety.

but mostly its just about set and setting.

Anxiety is a nasty devil on psychedelics because it's hard to deal with.

If I were to have a panic attack sober, I'd close my eyes and focus on my breathing. Doing this while tripping however will make you start to trip magnitudes harder - so if you're freaking out about tripping to hard, this wont help.

I've never had a full blown panic attack on shrooms, but I have on acid. Took a 2mg Valium (diazepam) and it mellowed me out. Didn't stop the trip at all, but made it different and more mellow, kinda like a warm dream. Made me feel really relaxed and like my chest was heavy also - but didn't really impact the visuals much or at least that's what I told myself at the time. In retrospect I can't remember that trip at all, only the affirmations I made during the trip. Guess the benzo deleted my memroies :tongue:

That all being said, I say avoid using benzos unless you REALLY need it (panic attack). You should learn to manage and eliminate your trip anxiety and I have a few techniques to help you do this:

1. Daily meditation
Do some daily meditation and practice your breathing techniques. Meditation above all else is the practice of discipline. Learn to control your body and you'll learn to control your mind.

But don't meditate for the sake of personal gain. Meditate for the sake of mediating. Enjoy it. Meditative states of mind are very psychedelic in nature and take many years to develop.

Don't think of there being a "goal" of meditation. That's where many doctors go wrong, they suggest to patients to "meditate" but when they do the patients say "nothing is happening" so they stop.

Just by engaging in meditation you're at the goal - that's it, you win, you're meditating - you're no different than a jedi master or a Buddhist monk. You're there, doing it. You can only meditate "wrong" if you expect results. By having no expectations, no goals, you successfully meditate.

2. Lower your dosage, drastically.

I know after we've had some of those epic 5g journeys to the inner soul we never want to go back to dosing low BUT this is essential for overcoming your anxiety.

One of the primary causes of anxiety is your body rejecting an unfamiliar situation and telling you to "escape". By dosing very low, the mind stays relatively calm and starts getting used to this altered state.

Just try it. You'll still feel anxiety on the comeup but then when the brain realized that you're not really tripping very hard the anxiety goes away.

Upping your dose over time and allowing your mind get used to the feeling of tripping again is very important to eliminating anxiety. I do this every time I have a bad trip. Just go back to 1g, then the next week 2g e.t.c.

3. Have a sitter you trust

Having a person to ground you to reality can be profoundly helpful when things start to go bad. Sure you might not be able to get those uber deep introspective journys when there's a person around BUT having someone to talk to that isn't going to try and mess with you is a great trust building exercise between your brain and the mushrooms. When you feel safe, your mind learns to accept the mushrooms.

4. Eliminate general stress
Extreme anxiety is called a "panic attack". Minor anxiety is called "stress". While stress has become a part of many of our lives that we ignore, it's there and can have a compounding effect with other stressors.

In collage (and highschool for that matter) I liked to get super far behind in my studies and put off returning assignments. While I could generally distract myself from these responsibilities with the enjoyments of life, psychedelics weren't forgiving with these matters. That stress comes out when you start to trip and adds to any anxiety you may have about tripping which bring you a lot closer to having a full blown panic attack.

When I trip I like to preform a ritual before hand in which I finish ALL unfinished jobs, clean up my trip area and set my affairs in order. Doing this not only will help you have a better more fulfilling trip, but will also give you a sense of satisfaction about being in control - of both your body and your mind.
