Opium Lettuce Look Alikes?

Found some of what i believe to be Opium lettuce today growing on the side of the road, so naturaly i picked it, and it had a very strong root system, had the "prickly" leaves and a relativly strong center stalk with the jagged edges on all leaves, did a taste test and was bitter but not unbearable. I sliced the sides with a blade and white latex oozed out, along with nice globs on the bottom. It had no blooms yet, and was about 1 ft. tall. Anything sound wrong about this? (The latex dried off brown color, maybe a hint of yellowish orange. Any Look alikes i should know about?

I've been keeping the leaves from my poppies because i was gonna try smoking them, but i keep seeing everyone talking about how much of a waste of time it is, so i think they'll end up in the compost pile. Just goes to show that you can't believe everything you read in books. If you do decide to give it a go, let us know how it was.

It's uses and benefits are vast and many, and it exists, so obviously, for mankind to use for all it has to offer.[gradient:#C7D4C8,#][/gradient]

I have a few friends that swear by it and bong large amounts of it. In honesty, it does have some effect, but very disappointing compared to actual opium. Its supposed to be very common in my area of England, but would be found amongst the (I think) 12 other plants in the lactuca family found in Europe. What my friends report I believe is due to placebo as well as under the influence of weed and booze.

Yes I believe it's placebo or just plain BS. I mean it's proven that their is an active in Lactuca, but it's extremely subtle and nothing like opiates. At best it might make you a little sedated.
But then their is 10 other things that will do that job better anyways.
