SE Melbourne ID. Fist time finding possible subs
    #14443715 - 05/13/11 03:48 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hey everyone, I’ve never lived in an area where actives grow free until recently but since I’ve recently moved to Melbourne I thought I’d give it a go. I wasn’t really expecting to find anything but I found what is a little patch of subs growing in a park. What does everyone think?

Habitat: Found growing on woodchip mulch between some shrubs and eucalypts. There were a heap of Leratiomyces ceres and around 4 other different mushrooms growing in the same area.

Gills: Mostly light tan with some dark blue splotches from bruising

Stem: White and fibrous with a bit of a twist, dark blue splotchy bruises. It’s a little thinner than I was expecting it to be but I have no idea.

Cap: Mostly orangey brown to dark brown, beginning to get a lot lighter as it dries.

Spore print color:  Spore printing now.

Bruising: Extreme blue bruising (I can only assume, this is the first time I’ve ever been in possession of suspected actives). When gills or stem are pinched a little you can watch it bruise before your eyes.

Location: SE inner Melbourne suburbs

The whole patch looked really young so I only picked two to help ID while the rest grow.

This is the park where I found them growing

You can see the bruising on the side of the gills.

Number two

Number two gills

This bruise appeared litteraly 30 seconds after I lightly pinched them

I will post spore prints as soon as they're ready if there's any chance I do indeed have subs.

Pics are a little dodge, but i'm guessing they are both subs.

Try and get a better pic of the cap, but the stem, gills, and rapid bruising definitely suggests thats them.

Sorry about the terrible pics, my camera isn't the greatest. What's the best way to resize images to post?

The bigger cap

There's a bit of a darker nipple in the very centre of all the caps too which is promising.

Apologies for the bad pics again.

Edit: They were both sprouted off the same chunk of mycelium so they are the same species. Forgot to mention that before.
