Serotonin Syndrome?

At the end of their first trip my friend experienced light-headedness, anxiety, sweating, and passed out. They were on 50mg of Zoloft and wondered if these symptoms could have been from the trip or an excess of serotonin?

Zoloft.. shouldn't be tripping if you're using it.

This is actually pretty common.
I'd venture a guess that it was low blood sugar.
Try to get a good meal in during the come down and/or don't fast for so long beforehand.

Man I think I know what you are talking about. I used to get them when I was like 16 and taking a lot of mdma. I'd be trying to fall asleep and I would feel and hear what seemed like electricity firing in my brain. Weird shit, as far as I can remember it only happened after mdma.

SSRI's should never be combined with trips of any type. You wont get off as well and theres stroke risk. Psy meds and trip dont mix. Benzos are the only exception

I have had this happen after a period of mdma binging in high school for a few days random and infrequently but I also had this happen to me when coming up on the hardest 2c-e trip EVAR and I couldnt find a way to explain it, except the noise got so frequent it turned into a constant trip balls space with intense euphoria for a few hours. Thanks for the link, also happens when I get sleep paralysis coming on and the whole lucid dreaming deal.

There are a lot of anecdotes and sources on the web that say Zoloft and other SSRIs can be mixed with shrooms. The trip was off 17 fresh grams, and caused closed eye visuals and melting of objects, so it couldn't have been dampened much. It had been about 5 hours since they last ate.

That's interesting because a lot of the time, the Zoloft will completely negate the trip. But there's no harm in using it with psychedelics.
So 5 hours before they shroomed? Or they ate right before they ate the mushrooms? I'd think 5 hours is fine, but 11's a different story.
Was pot involved? I've seen people pass out from too big of a bong hit... especially the day after a trip. I always assumed that this was somewhat related to low blood sugar, though I'm sure there's other possible explanations for why pot affects you differently on psychedelics.

took 600mg dxm while on my ssri (lexapro) ....
Almost died.
You are consciously aware of your environment despite the fact your body enters a seizure.
There is nothing you can do as your extremities shake uncontrollably and your brain feels as though it is on fire.
The heart races beyond comprehension. Jesus, it was a scary hour or so~
God, I was stupid back then ...

They ate 5 hours before the trip, and passed out maybe 3 hours into it. There was no weed involved. Next time they'll eat before the comedown.

Or just eat a small meal beforehand especially if you'll be tripping for a while (e.g. mescaline).
Be safe, you crazy kids.

normal normal normal and not so normal.
what do you mean by "passed out" was he out cold for multiple minutes?
maybe he is just sensitive to psilocybin. i've seen people black out on high doses of mushrooms. they just didnt remember a bit of it.
tldr; we need more details yo.

I answered the question. This isn't Serotonin Syndrome.
When this syndrome comes into play, you will want your life to end. You will know.
Don't even try and feed me the bullshit that there are varying degrees of SS.
NO. Here is how it goes:
1) Agitation or restlessness/Overactive reflexes - ex. Hands shaking uncontrollably.
2) Fast heart beat/Rapid changes in blood pressure - Jesus, my heart was tweaking the fuck out, and people knew it. I didn't have to go on a forum and do guesswork. It was obvious.
3) Hallucinations - If the situation was not so dire, I might have enjoyed this part - more of a side-effect of the trip than the SS though.
4) Increased body temperature - My body was beet red, and my friends said they could have cooked an egg on my forehead.
5) Loss of coordination - And so I lay there with a confused group of kiddies around me, scared shitless, as I could barely control my limbs from flailing/vibrating.
6) Diarrhea - I took a nasty wet after the above symptoms died down. Somewhat relaxing actually
Ah, to be 17 and clueless again.
Sounds like a bunch of sensitive peeps. Not SS.

What the twelve fat people described is much more intense than what happened to my friend. The loss of consciousness happened as they were walking out of the bathroom. They woke up on the floor with a small bump on their head, and there were things on the floor they had knocked over on the way down. It's not likely that they were out for more than a few seconds. I'm going to say that they were probably tired, dehydrated, and hungry, and that it wasn't serotonin syndrome.

I've had those as well on mushrooms, on long lsd binges and very rarely on random moments. Any information about them apart from the exploding head wiki? It doesn't feel like my head explodes, just like the left and right part of my brain excange electricity in a sudden thunderbolt.
