Bands you're not surprised that do psychedelics but don't make it obvious
    #14439967 - 05/12/11 12:32 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

Deathspell Omega lulz :prance:

From the liner notes/ending note to the lyrics of a song/EP they made:

Quote:

Deathspell Omega wrote:

"Diabolus Absconditus": the conjunction of intellect in psychotropic-altered
senses supported by insisted and archaic sounds.

Quote:

the conjunction of intellect in psychotropic-altered senses

Quote:

I wonder what FUCKED UP, apocalyptic shit they've seen while tripping, to write the lyrics they do and make the songs they make :kingtard:

Anybody else find out a band they dig actually incorporate psychedelics in the composition process of the shit they make, but don't let on to it, but then again judging by the way their songs are it's not shocking they do?

I can't really find any info on the track really - but that's the name and its on their rare tracks album...

The first time I heard it I was frying and without a doubt I knew they were too.. would it be humanly possible to make something like that if you weren't??

I don't know if you've seen the video for the song Bleed... its not my favorite meshuggah track but its imagery really reminds me of some of the darker things I've seen throughout my psychedelic voyages  - especially the jumping clocks... them clocks always jumpin'! (some of its a lil' cheesy though )

Meshuggah is amazing, the track "I" is like 20 minutes of prog deathy metal, the drumming polys and time changes in that song are just insane.

What would it be like to listen to shitty generic mainstream radio dance pop completely tripping balls?  Think lady Gaga, Ke$ha, Britney Spears and all those other clones.

desiretoheal - Fuck yeah.  LOVE King Crimson.

That song just about reduces me to tears... but is the all encompassing melancholly.

Melancholly is my favourite emotion to explore when on psychedelics.  It is the most REAL to me.

Olivia Tremor Control is AWESOME while tripping. I swear it's made just for that state of mind.

They are rather obvious about it though so maybe they don't apply. I liked them already but never paid much attention to their lyrics until I was on L and they blew me away.

King Crimson is one of the best bands to ever exist PERIOD.

I've read a couple places where Robert Fripp has stated multiple times that he detests drug use and says that drugs are pointless, cloud creativity and musical ability etc.  Although a large percent of Crimson's catalogue is insanely trippy I really do believe they are all 100% sober dudes.  Makes sense too, they have really technical music that would be very hard-impossible to play if you were tripping balls or stoned beyond belief.  All live videos i've seen of Crimson, Fripp always appears to be completely still in complete concentration while performing.

I just posted some Crimson because the other two guys were and they're too good not to post.

I suppose the opposite of this thread could be made as well, "Bands you're surprised that haven't taken any psychedelics".

I have an idea for that one, mainly all the stuff mike patton does. He said he only drinks coffee. I'm not sure if any of his band mates have indulged in anything mind-expanding though. I'm pretty sure King Buzzo from the Melvins and Fantomas must have taken psyches at some point.

I think really technical music is easier to play super stoned or even tripping... It allows me at least, to get into the feel of the song much better and just play - instead of constantly thinking of what comes next and struggling to keep up.

This song gives me shit sober but when I'm on mushrooms its like clockwork :awesome:

Oh and its related - since the Faceless probably do psychedelics judging by their lyrics...(not this song in particular)

Haha yeah Buzz and the Melvins for sure.  Mike Patton is another sober dude as well, he's just naturally crazy.

Apparently he has every room in his house mic'ed up and will just walk around in it and yell out random ass noises sporadically so he never loses a new weird sound.  IDK if he still does this or what but he probably used this technique during the writing of the Fantomas albums, gotta love them.

Haha dude thats crazy, I can barely even hold my guitar properly when tripping.  The Faceless are a good band,(is it just me or do they have different members and amounts of members every 2 months?) they really stand to out amongst all the other studio powered tech metal bands that sound exactly the same as each other and have unreadable logos.

No  I was thinking that too, when I saw them live they only had like 4 members if I remember right (no keyboard.. wtf!)... they got a new bassist recently too (whose pretty sick.. I think they'll be keeping him around)

But yeah they definitely are much more interesting than the pack - I just heard the pre-production preview from a song on their new album and I'm quite impressed :awesome: (kudos to propensity for making me aware of this..)

I know bits and pieces of a lot of them but front to back... Pestilence, An Autopsy, Leica, Prison Born, Xenochrist, planetary duality 1 & 2 and Sons of Belial... I've been wanting to take a good crack at Akeldama but there's a couple riffs in that intro solo that are a royal pain :smirk: extremely fun stuff to play though!

listening to Fantomas's Suspended Animation with headphones while tripping is one of the craziest music experiences i've ever had.

It is really a mind fuck with all the cartoon sound effects and start/stop thrash metal and crazy electronic feedback/sampling shit with  Pattons insane asylum vocals, each song is like 1-2 minutes long and they go into so much weird territory, a definite must hear for lovers of experimental music.

"An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind" - Gandhi
"Look up at me I am God, look down on me and I am evil, look at me I am you." - Charles Manson.

Damn man, you good. I need to start learning some tech death soon to improve my skills. I just know some psycroptic stuff and foul body autopsy by necrophagist.  I've been simply working on my techniques for quite a while now.

I have most of Mr. Bungle and the other projects he's worked on, but I'd never heard of fantomas before.

Hahah I kinda have to do the opposite as you... need to work on the details in my technique and knowing what I'm doing more than learning random songs
Necrophagist is incredibly hard though! Extreme Unction is the only song of theirs I've managed to get down.. but Foul Body Autopsy is on my to do list..

Thanks to this lady :awesome:

If I ever met her some day by chance... I must be able to keep up :lolsy:

edit:

one album I have yet to hear from fantomas is Delìrium Còrdia, a 74 minutes and 17 seconds track that could be described as the score to a horror movie and/or concept album centering on the theme of surgery without anesthesia.

I am very interested however. I'll have to listen to that soon.

Thats going to give me nightmares!!

I just noticed that the Melvin's were mentioned.

The Melvins are so

fucking

awesome

ESPECIALLY when they tread into very doomy metal territory.

Melvins - Dies Irae

Quote:

The Melvins do a classic cover off their new album NUDE WITH BOOTS:
Dies Irae (Day of Wrath) is a famous thirteenth century Latin hymn thought to be written by Thomas of Celano. It is a medieval Latin poem, differing from classical Latin by its accentual (non-quantitative) stress and its rhymed lines. The meter is trochaic. The poem describes the day of judgment, the last trumpet summoning souls before the throne of God, where the saved will be delivered and the unsaved cast into eternal flames.
ALSO, the opening score to "The Shining"!!

All live videos i've seen of Crimson, Fripp always appears to be completely still in complete concentration while performing.

it's completely plausible that Fripp has never had a psychedelic experience. He certainly has at least been influenced by the altered states of others.  Bill Bruford on the other hand, Im sure he was dropping acid in Yes.. CLOSE TO THE EDGE!
