The Human Connection w/ Dogs.
    #14439415 - 05/12/11 10:11 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

As I lay here watching my dog tend her surgical wounds as she leans against me, I ponder on thoughts as to why human's, no matter how 'manly' or 'proud', seem to have a soft spot for dogs.  I have forever been a dog lover, and know that my love for dogs is MUCH more than most.  But not many things can make a person stop whatever it is they are doing simply to pet them like dogs can.

Last week my dog jumped out of the bed of my truck while I was driving and broke her rear leg.  She had ridden back there hundreds of times, and for whatever reason she decided to jump.  The guilt I felt is like no guilt I have ever felt before.  After I calmed down some hours later, I realized that nothing in my previous 21 years had ever upset me as badly as watching my dog writhe in pain.

Maybe it's just me, but I feel there is a cosmic connection between humans and dogs.  I have had many psychedelic experiences with my dog at my side, and I feel it provides and aspect to the  experience that no other outside force can.  Just my .02

Your dog/cat will never let you down. More than I can say for almost all people.

What is genuine love?

--------------------
:bunny::bunnyhug:
All this time I've loved you
And never known your face
All this time I've missed you
And searched this human race
Here is true peace
Here my heart knows calm
Safe in your soul
Bathed in your sighs

I was walking home from the community pool when I was 'assaulted' by a beautiful white and black short hair cat with a Hitler moustache. She was not content to rub against my leg and be scratched. Every time I bent over she would stand on two legs and stretch to rub her nose against my face.

I think what dogs feel for humans is often times more like Stockholm syndrom.

Years ago, a lady bred mutated cats with exceptionally short legs that were unable to jump or leap. She recieved death threats - no joke! The angry people thought she was being cruel.

It most likely is 'just you' as this is just another variation of the 'God in the Gaps'. You do not undertand the physiological responses (release of ocytocin when being touched for instance) therefore ascribe your ignorance to some vague mystical connection.

^^^wow!

What IS interesting though is the siberian fox experiments.  Over many generation scientists breed to get friendly, tame foxes.  It worked, showing aggression is genetic..but what I find interesting is the physical side effects.  When they started the foxes looked like this-

Now fast forward 50 years and the tame and cuddly house pets look like this!

Saw it in a documentary and my jaw literally dropped.  Meanwhile, another group was bred for agression and they still look the same.

Somehow the same set of genes that makes for a good pet also makes them cute as a button.

Nah.  I didn't even know they existed until a few days ago.

Pretty sweet though if they're friendly.  I imagine they would be...that dude who lived with grizzly bears befriended a wild fox that hung out with him each year and would play fetch and shit.
