Habitat: Creek in Victoria Australia. Grows in dirt/soil
Pictures:

These were found growing near eachother, it might be the same thing but it might not.
Anyone have any idea what these are and if they're active or not?
Thanks

Coprinus comatus. It's one of the best edibles when it's young.

Eat within 6 hours of picking, well before the gills turn black and liquify.

Ink cap, shaggy mane, whatever you want to call it, it's still Coprinus comatus.

I spotted one the other day, took pics and walked away. Came back two wet days later to see it had melted. Should have picked it!!

Why does everybody ask this question about random mushrooms? I really want to know. It's like entering a tool shop pointing at every single one of the available 138722 tools asking "Is this a hammer? Is this a hammer? Is this a hammer? Is this a hammer?" Isn't it much easier to first educate oneself about what a hammer looks like? http://www.google.com/search?um=1&hl=en&biw=1278&bih=806&tbm=isch&sa=1&q=hammer+-hummer+-mc+-jan&aq=f&aqi=&aql=&oq=
