2nd flush coir tray consisting of one huge shroom.
    #14439169 - 05/12/11 08:51 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

Hi Guys,

recently moved from a few tubs to a martha as the blue tub wasn't really helping my bedroom look very bedroomy.

Here's a pic of a giant (in comparison to its bretheren) 3.25" cap diameter, about 6 inches long so far. Any other shrooms coming out of this setup aren't even close to half this size. It is the only child of this tray's second flush.

Now, I've personally grown mushies that I could compare to my forearm in size, but that was using a tweaked setup and race horse hpoo of legend. my current Coir and iffy martha makes me think this is good ole dna at work.

So here's my question: Is this something I should be taking tissue from and attempting to clone?

I'm willing to overnight the agar and such if so, but I don't want to waste my time if this is a commonplace occurrence (aka nothing to see here).

You want to clone the first flush mushrooms & you want it to be the quickest & largest growing one.

I just grab a pin that fits the above criteria and stick it on agar.

^^Like that one...I let it overcolonize a bit, but it worked just fine.

ok then. but my question is, was and remains, to the op, what strain of cubensis are you growing? it looks mex, eqs, gt . a very 'traditional' looking cube. as traditional as a cube can look.

well :/

a strain of a mushroom is the result of two individual spores "gettin it on"

when you take a spore syringe with millions and millions of different cubensis spores. and shoot that into a jar. you probably have more than ten different strains of genetically unique mycelium occupying the same jar.

and furthermore. when you fruit a substrate like this. the fruitbodies are likely to contain more than one genetically unique "strain"

tldr; spores arent strains.

strains come from agar work. and strains of illegal mushrooms cannot be traded.

Lol, thanks for all the responses!

Its either GT or Costa Rica. I had two MS LC's made up for each, but lost track of the tray identities as soon as I put them into fruiting.

Just plucked it, stem felt quite hollow, end weight 41.1g

no its just people using mycological terms incorrectly.

we use words like "race" or "variety" of cubensis.

and if you use the search engine there is a post detailing why.

oh wait you dont even need to search. its stickied at the top of this forum.

Wow that’s an impressive specimen!

I’m a bit of f a newb and gonna start coir tek on my next go after I collect the spores from my first flush on a rye berry grow kit.

I was wandering how do you instigate the flushes on coir?

Do you dunk it in water for 12 hours like one would do for a rye substrate grow kit?

You don't instigate flushes. Mycelium does all by itself.
