PRAISE be to the SGFC (ilovepics)
    #14438681 - 05/12/11 05:03 AM (12 years, 8 months ago)

i just want to take a moment and praise the wonders of the shotgun fruiting chamber

i made mine out of a 72 quart clear bin. it came with a stupid white lid, so i cut the middle out of it and laid in a couple layers of plastic wrap. then, i heated up needle and melted holes in it, fusing in the layers together. pretty cleaver. i use the middle part i cut out to fan.

with four inches of perlite, i WAS having some problems with fluctuating humidity, and it kept drying out.

then i switched the light bulb from incandescent to compact florescent, and BAM! no more dry perlite and 100% RH at all times of the day and night.

at first, i didnt really understand; "so....the air goes through the perlite?" but NOW i truly understand how its supposed to work, and boy howdy, it  works!

i guess this is just another post where im not really asking a question, but rather just letting everyone know whats going on in my situation.

never the less, i love you guys. happy thursday!

Congrats!  The SGFC looks to be a great design.  Looking forward to trying it sometime.

You'd be surprised how many people get to this step and decide I can't work so they make something else.

oh, and for anyone who was like, "god damn it! you didn't say ANYTHING specific about your setup!" i understand, and have come to fix that.

i got that bitch set up on shot glasses. 3 to be exact, cuz thats all i have, alcohol tears families apart and ruins everything it touches.

holes. alot of em. almost exactly 2 inches apart.

i fan like 4 times a day, at least. if i ever even go into the room, i pop the top off and give her a quick breeze.

i mist 3 times a day, in the morn, the noon, and the nite. i put some H2O2 in the water as well, just cuz i like it.

compact florescent bulb, on from 9am to 9pm. i did wake up today to it not being on though. after a little untwist it came right on though. weird. maybe too tight? whatever.

i guess im done flaunting my newb; heres some pictures!

the setup!

these cakes have been in there maybe a week. i have no idea what they SHOULD look like, but this is what they DO look like.

and another, just for a different angle.

thanks for always being so supportive guys, you really are the best people in earth.

oh, and of course, Doc, its always a pleasure to see you. if i told you i was your secret admirer, it wouldn't be a secret anymore would it?  :cuddles:

Is that the wrong light or is your camera off in color hues?

And yeah, SGFC is really awesome. Sometimes when it's dark or I am really tired I fan through the holes on the side.

im not sure why that light looks yellow, probably something with my camera.

i have a kodak m1033 and it has an "auto-mode" that just changes the setting for you. and cuz i'm even less of a photographer than i am a mycologist, thats the mode i use most of the time.  :3stooges:
