SteelCutOat's Grow Log---Retard TEK

This is refering to the research of cultivation of legal fungus for academic and intellectual purposes.
First I made a liquid culture from a spore syringe by boiling jars of 4% honey/water, inoculating and taping the hole. One jar had gas exchange while two did not. The two without GE grew significantly faster than the one with GE.
Took Cracked Corn and Verm and mixed in a pot. Boiled for 15 mins. Then mixture, still hot, is moved to a cermaic bowl with a matching bowl on top and oven cooked at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
Boiled my 1 cup PP containers for 15 mins.
Lids: Poked two holes in each lid with the needle matching my empty syringe. Then three stacked coffee filters were rubber banded to the lid's edges. Put up to a light I marked the holes in the lid on the coffee filter with a sharpie marker.
Placed an even amount of CC/Verm in each containter and screwed the lid on tight caring not to remove the coffee filters. Boiled for 1.5 hours and plastic bagged and left to cool in early afternoon.
11:00 pm Monday May 9: Inoculated each container with liquid culture. Taped the hole in the coffee filters.
Incubated at 86 degrees.
12:00 am Thurs May 12: With a microscope eyepiece lens I inspected my containers. Many of them have stringy, ropey, bright white rhizomorphic explosion points, though barely visible to the naked eye (therefore no pics yet).
Will update with pics soon.

86 degrees is too high for incubation. 75F is more ideal, if you dont plan to breed bacteria.

without Pressure cooking any grain I would think that you are opening the door for very quick contamination.

I've always wondered, if the lid on the jar is secured tightly, doesn't the jar itself become pressurized through heating?

You would risk that the jars blow up if you close them airtight and heat them above the boiling point. As long as there is any humidity into the grain, the temp will not rise above 100C. That is not enough to kill endospores. In a PC at 15 PSI the temp is about 130F which is enough to kill the common endospores. You need to hold the 130C for at least 30 minutes to get all endospores killed.

Are you intentionally using Centigrade and Fahrenheit interchangeably?
130F = 54.44C
130C = 266F -this is what I think you meant.

From WIKI---While resistant to extreme heat and radiation, endospores can be destroyed by burning or by autoclaving. Endospores are able to survive boiling at 100°C for hours, although the longer the number of hours the fewer that will survive.

I suggest to buy a PC. It is necessary for sterilizing grains. Or try this..Fractional sterilization or tyndallization

Buy a PC if you want to go anywhere with grain!
If you dont want to buy PC...go with BRF cakes!

LOL Open your mind a little bit to different possibilities. Just because pressure cooking is the easiest, most sterile, and quickest way (therefore best way)....it does not necessarily entail it to be the ONLY way.

I'd be willing to bet buds to buttons that the "close minded" posters are well aware of this statement the title of this website says something to the effect of "spreading ACCURATE information....." I think that is what you are seeing. Good luck with your project BC

eh.. 75 is fruiting temp. incubation shold be 80-82 for quick colonization. 85 is a bit high but not TOO High.
my jars take 3-4 weeks to colonize below 79F ; 1.5-2 weeks at 82F

Actually the Tyndall method looks pretty good to me. Will use on next batch when...I mean...if this one fails.

Are the grains totally submerged in between boiling? Or left to dry?
